Montale - Ordering Direct is Cheaper

Hey all --

I just ordered a 50ml bottle of Black Aoud direct from Montale in Paris. They charged a total of €75: €55 for the juice + €20 shipping.

With the current favorable exchange rate, the total came to about $100 (including shipping!). Contrast that with Lucky Scent's price of $150 for a 50ml bottle, pre-shipping. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

FYI, they're asking €95 for a 100ml bottle. That price includes an additional 20ml travel spray of the fragrance of your choice. And free shipping. :thumbup1:

Figured I'd pass along the info.

Oh heck yes, and I have recently bought from Montale directly in this way. Also, at least for the 100 ml size, at least in some "flavors" they supposedly add addtional "concentrate," which adds not only addtional intensity, but addtional volume--up to 20 ml according to some folks. I do not know because they strongly advised against adding addtional concentrate to Oud Cuir d'Arabie, even though they said they would do it if I insisted, and I did not! Shipping does take awhile and be prepared for a call from your credit card company asking whether you or one of your family with your card is in Paris buying goods at a small clothing shop!

It is really a fantastic deal and if I were Luck Scent, I would be annoyed with Montale for doing it. Of course, I have never understood how Lucky Scent charges $175 for 100 ml C&S scents that cost $115 at Cambridge Chemists before the B&B discount at CC. London Bathecary also charges $115 or so for100 ml C&S scents, as I recall!

Ordering direct seems to be the preferred method on basenotes since you get that free 20ml of your choice. This will likely be the route I take unless I happen accross a bottle for cheap, which then leaves the door open for ordering a different scent directly and getting a mini bottle

Only problem I have with Montale is I went I look at their site I want to order about 5 of their sents and I cannot afford them.
I need to just stay away.

Paul

Why does it always cost so much to save money? This is the Gordian Knot of B&B.

Well...until a place like Cambridge Chemists, QED or Vintage Blades starts carrying Montale fragrances, this is probably the best way to untie that proverbial knot. (As long as the exchange rate holds up, anyway.)

No, you're absolutely right. This is an excellent option.

Yup, this is the best way to purchase Montale fragrances. I've bought two this way: Black Aoud and Taif Roses. I always sell the 20 ML travel spray that comes with the purchase on eBay to help finance the $120 purchase price.

I just wanted to give this a bump. I came across a sack of sample that I had quite forgotten about, including a number of Montale fragrances. I'm going to work through them for a while, then take advantage of this great discount by making an order.

Also, does anybody know if two of the 50mm bottles would rate the free 20mm frag?

I was planning on picking up a bottle of Black Aoud from them. What do I ask them fore if I want the scent concentrated? This scent is already pretty potent. Has anyone tried the concentrated version? Does it make it easy to over-apply?

Don't know. Good question. They are pretty easy to talk to if you can get them to respond at all!

Tell them you would like the Black Aoud to be concentrated. There seems to be uncertainty as to whether that adds volume as well. They will concentrate BA and I think it is worth doing, even thought it is intense to begin with. Use discretion in application, as always. They really do notrecommend concentrating other scents, such as Oud Cuir d'Arabie, although they may do it if you really push for it. I took their advice and did not concentrate the Cuir. Did concentrate the BA.

I just got my order from Montale and I'm very impressed. I got a large bottle of Attar for Mrs. Nid Hog and a travel bottle of Black Aoud for myself. They concentrated both of them. Everybody at Montale was very nice and it took a little less than a month from the time I placed the order until I received it. Given that it was an international order with free shipping sent over the holidays, I think that was perfectly reasonable.

I will admit to be a bit taken aback when I first opened the package. Montale's bottles are extremely light and don't have the heft that I normally associate with a good house.

However, the juice inside more than makes up for the packaging. It is truly sublime. Mrs. Nid Hog has a taste for fine fragrances and I was a little concerned that she might not like the Attar (although she had been asking for something that fits the description of the Attar). She was over the moon. In fact, she hated to throw away the shipping container, which smelled faintly of roses. And me? I think that the Black Aoud is fantastic. I'm in every way pleased with my order. Even got a funky furry bag to put my travel bottle in!

If you're sitting on the fence about buying yourself one of Montale's fragrances, I strongly encourage you to order directly when you decide to pull the trigger. Enjoy!
