What's new

Modified GD's

I thought I would try my hand at modifying and it's definitely something I'd like to keep doing. Decided I would make some form fit pine boxes for them.

A better pic of how the boxes turned out.

Looks great! I dig the box - did you just use a router to cut them out? I just received five GDs I'm planning on hacking up. I may have to give the box idea a go.

How about you two send me your latest custom straights, and let me decide how to store them?

For the OP, I like how graceful the toes of the blades are.

Thanks guys, after playing around white pine and walnut seem to be my favorite contrast.

Thanks guys, after playing around white pine and walnut seem to have the best contrast.

I'm not a 'spurt with these things but I've always had trouble mixing softer woods like pine with harder woods like walnut, oak, mahogany, etc. When you try to mate two of the pieces together, it becomes very hard to make a nice transition. If you use poplar (which, where we are, is cheaper than clear pine - which is really strange) or something a bit harder than SPF and mix that with a darker wood, I bet it would look snazzy and be pretty tough. I like the idea of contrasting woods.
