Mike's Shave Stick vs. Tin

I'm new to Mike's soaps. I received a tin (Vetiver) and a stick. After a few shaves with the tin I tried the stick. I'm not a stick user, I rubbed it all over wet face and used brush to face lather. What I found is that I got a signifcantly smoother shave with the direct stick application of the soap. Was just wondering if this is a typical advantage of any stick?

I see a couple of advantages to using shave sticks:

1. it is a direct and very efficient way to apply soap to your face (so you should have plenty of product)
2. lathering on your face is an extension of your prep time and can only help your shave IMHO

Stick are terrific. I think that using sticks helped me avoid adding too much water to the soap, whereas lathering a puck made it easier for me to add to much water. Once I got a better idea of the ratio of soaps/water, my lathering from pucks improved. However, in some cases the stick is NOT the same product as the puck or tub, although I don't think that is the case with Mike's. Valobra and Ogallala Bay Rum are two products that are very different as brick/puck versus the corresponding sticks.
