Microscopes

I use the Celestron 5MP USB scope. You can buy them on eBay for $50-80.

Do not buy the cheap one with chrome stand with wingnut adjustment. Get the one with sturdy base and knob micro adjustment. The slightest adjustment will knock you out of focus and the cheap one will easily disrupt the focus and make you crazy trying to keep the edge in focus.

If you buy a Celestron, make sure you buy a scope with the software included. There are a bunch for sale cheap without software, but Celestron does not support those models.

I have heard that there are other photo software programs that will work with them, but still problematic.

A USB scope is an excellent way to learn to hone, I have taught a number of folks to hone and currently coaching a few currently on line with USB scopes.

Google, (My Second Try at Honing), for a honing, photo tutorial with great USB micrographs from a $30 scope.
