Mezlan Hillegas in Navy.with what to wear them?

A couple of weekends ago I was poking around on STP with a 35% off coupon and stumbled upon these shoes. They piqued my curiosity (definitely a shoe that's a bit more daring/unconventional than I'm used to), and I noted that they only had 1 pair left, and coincidently (or was it the fates?) it was my size. After applying the coupon, these shoes were going to set me back aprx $140 shipped (I thought that a pretty good deal for what I think is a well made shoe). I kicked it around, and figured why not? So I hit submit, and eagerly awaited their arrival. They came in, and they look as advertised and fit well.
I'm still tossed up on whether or not to keep them. I know that if I do, I'll would probably be served if I don't wear them too often, as they seem to be something to be pulled out on occasion (not special, per se) when I'm looking to spice it up a bit.
My question to you, gentlemen, is with what would you pair them? Assume for a moment that you made the purchase, and liked both the look and fit.
Thanks in advance for any feedback/insight/advice you can provide!

Light fade jeans or light tans with a grey spectrum shirt or sportcoat. Other than that, I can't think of anything to pair with 'em. I recently sold a pair of blue shoes because I could only wear them with one outfit.

They are not plain shoes that blend into every situation, but they are also not overtly flashy. If they fit well I would be inclined to keep them and enjoy them on occasion, as there must have been something appealing about them. But if you are finding them not your style or not able to wear with any of your clothes then might be time to send back. It is hard to tell from the pictures how well the blue could become black or a darker shade of navy over time, to handle more situations.

I definitely find them appealing. But as closed lacing Bals I'm looking to be careful with how I pair them. I would like to wear them maybe 1-2 times a month, and would really like to pair them properly when doing so.

Maybe it's my monitors or maybe it's another one of those shoe lingo things I don't get, but they look black to me.

Grey, cream, or white trousers.

I've a nice pair of grey trousers...but I need find a blue leather belt to go with it (I always subscribe to matching your leather...especially belt and shoes).

Even in person, if the lighting's sort of dark, they'll appear pretty dark. But in hand the navy's quite obvious.

Don't forget watch strap, if applicable.

yeah, I was wondering if that might be the case even as I posted.
