Merkur Moustache Safety Razor

Has anyone used the Merkur Moustache Safety Razor? I just ran out of my Schick Extreme 3 razors from my pre-DE shaving career. I used those razors to touch up around my gotee. I have shaved a couple of times since I ran out, and have been working with my regular DE razor. I find that my 38C can get me the vertical lines I want, but I still have trouble under my nose.

I am interested to hear if anyone has had any success with the Merkur Moustache razor. Is it worth the $30 it retails for or should I just keep trimming the gotee with my t-liners and spring 6 bucks for another pack of Extreme 3's that will last another year since I am only using them for touch ups to get the clean lines I like in my gotee.

I own and use the Merkur Moustache Razor. It is a wonderful design and will get you down and close. It has only one major flaw. The Merkur Blade is not a sharp blade. I have cured this by "hand stroping" and honing with a old razor blade stone hone. Is it worth it? I got mine in a Lot Deal on Ebay so for me yes. I must add that I get to shave places no other razor can get to!

Like Andy says, It's a nice design that's let down by the blades that come with it. With no other option, you're left to work with what you've got. I got mine for cheap on eBay. I wouldn't buy it at full price, not even close to full price. It's far too limited.

Andy, how do you use those razor blade hones? I have a stone one that has concave hone area but am at a loss on how to use it right. Tips/suggestions?

Corey;
I hone in two directions. The key is to keep the edges stright. Up and down the concave with very light pressure with the finger. This is better done with a wet blade. The second is left to right and back along the center line of the concave. Remember to keep a very light pressure. I do about ten strokes and then "hand strop". That is using the skin of the hand as a stroping leather. Hope this helps.
