Merkur Futur

I received my early Christmas Present on Friday which included a Tabac refill, some Coral Skin Food, and a chrome Merkur Futur. I have shaved with the Futur twice since and it is an amazing tool.

At setting "1", you can just club your face with no burn or weepers. Great for when you shave before you have your morning coffee. At setting "6.5" you could potentially chop your head off.

I have shaved with an HD (used to be my everyday razor of choice), Slant, Fatboys, Superspeeds, numerous Techs (old triangle style and newer slot style)...and the Futur (for me) is the smoothest of them all. Since I shave in the shower I was worried about the Futur being slippery. Weirdly, the polished chrome somehow provides much more friction than one would expect when wet. It's hard to explain but the Futur is definitely NOT slippery...it almost sticks to my fingers.

The Futur is my new everyday razor. On a side note, my chrome Futur reminds me of a Cylon from the old Battlestar Galactica TV series.

A few years back I bought my Dad a Futur (Matte Finish). He really likes it also, gives great audible feedback when mowing down whiskers. I tried to use it a few times myself and just could not get comfortable with it. I use a Progress and like it but I believe that the Futur has better build quality.

I love my futur also. I've used the HD, fatboy, slim and a gaggle of others. The futur is still my favorite. I do have a red tip I use too but I think I get my best shaves with the futur.

Oddly enough, it's the audible feedback of the futur that I could never get comfortable with. It has a hollow sound that makes me think the blade isn't secured.

It's a very smooth shaver and has great build quality but I have never really been able to get comfortable with it.

I have a few Merkurs and the Futur is my hands down favorite. It's settings give a wide range of closeness from light to skin shredding and I like the audible signals it gives. It also looks awesome.

I think that the Futur is - hands down - the best razor that I have ever used - and I've been shaving since 1960! I currently have a slant, a New, a Jagger and have owned many others, but the Futur is the one I use daily!

If I had known how good the Futur was, I would have gone for the gold one instead of my satin one. Maybe I'll buy a gold one anyway. Not just yet though.

The futur is my fav, always get great shaves with it. It's built like a tank. I just took it apart for the first time after seeing a post on how to do it. The thing was caked with crusty soap residue inside there but was still working smoothly all this time.

Its a beast of a razor, feels like a hammer in your hand, wonderfull razor, close shaves even on a low setting, turn it up and its a amazing bit of kit, every de user should have one.

I only have 2 razors and one is a Futur. by far my favorite at the moment. I do not see anything taking its place any time soon.

I really enjoy shaving with it on different settings but I always finish up on one against the grain BBS every time.

I bought the Futur as my first razor, but after 2 weeks, and alot of blood, I bought a Merkur HD. Shaves have been wonderful ever since. I thought after 2 months to try and Futur again, with Red Pack Personnas, and although I got a SUPER close shave (BBS) on my cheeks at setting 1.5, my neck had many cuts and weepers.

Not sure what it is about the Futur, but I can't seem to get a perfect shave from it. Whereas with the HD, I get a perfect shave everytime.

I love mine a whole lot more now that I've taken it apart and reassembled it. Before that one side shaved really well but the other always gave me at least razor burn. Now both sides are smooth as silk. Good timing too as I'm making the move to straights. Figures.

There is a tiny area I can't shave with the Futur.

I don't worry about it, I'll shave with something different the next day.

However, this looks like a good approach.

I bought the futur razor and brush set as my first set-up, assuming that I had to spend that sort of coin to get a good shave.

I love the weight of the futur, it definitely helped in understanding the 'no pressure' thing, just letting the weight of the razor do the work.

Now that I shave at 4 in the morning before work, I've switched to a HD as it is so easy to use when you are half asleep. But the futur is definitely my 'special occasion' razor. It's good to hear so much praise for such an underrated razor
