Merkur blades: destroyers of life and skin cells.

One word. Ouch.

My first shave with a straight razor wasn't as horrendous as this.

Nothing like the glide the Feathers had... just ouch.

That is all :D

The depressing thing about Merkur blades is their inconsistency. I bought a pack of these with my first razor. The first two blades I used were amazingly good, the rest of the blades in the pack were either OK or were so bad that I tossed them after one shave. You just never know what you're going to get.

I know there are some guys here who like them. However I think the majority will say they are on the low end of there razor list if them make it at all. If you can get a sample pack.

Good luck.

Hold on! Yes they are horrible blades in my opinion but, only compared to another. They are FANTASTIC for first starting Wet Shaving and are very forgiving! I was scared to death of DE shaving but, I read the same thing about the Merkur blades (being very forgiving) so, that's why I bought those to start off with. I put all the pressure on my face I wanted (you have to use pressure with these blades. They are pretty blunt to me) and I never got cut. Just some razorburn and weepers on my neck from pressing to get the blade to cut. I must say that they have helped me tremendously! They have served their purpose and I am now moving on.

I am sorry, but a blade that requires you to use pressure to get it to cut, is utter and total garbage!! They didn't serve any purpose, they just re-enforced bad technique that you will badly pay for when you try a blade that is adequately sharp!!

You are not supposed to get razorburn, or weepers if you are shaving properly. :001_smile

This is true but, because the cartridge was engrained in me since I was 13, applying pressure for me was natural. I think these blades saved my bacon a few times when I went off daydreaming. Then I realized, crap, if this had been a straight or something, I would probably be dead  To me it seems to be a good transition from cartridge to DE, especially if you already have bad habits.

This can be somewhat true and as they say YMMV...on a different note Congrats on the contributorship and Gold WOW Thanks again :w00t::w00t:

My first tries with an DE were with Merkur blades, and it was really horrible. I got a lot of cuts. Now I'm using Shark blades and I am quite happy with them. No more cuts, and they last long. Maybe I'll try some Feathers because they seem to have a good reputation over here, but to be honest, I would be perfectly fine with the Sharks. And they are very cheap, too.
But the Merkurs, oh boy. My father also tossed them because he got too many cuts with them.

I've actually been using them for a couple of weeks. I had bought them some time ago and they were sitting in a drawer while I was trying other blades. They're not my favorite, but I get perfectly good shaves without using pressure and the end result is very smooth. I have certainly used a lot worse blades.

I have to agree, Merkur isn't a good blade. Like everyone else, I started with the Merkur blades, and the shaves was not good, and I got major razor burns. I got blessed to recieve a sample pack 2 weeks ago, and I've tried Derby blades. And whoa! What a difference! It's a much closer shave and smoother, and almost no razor burn at all. I can be very light on my hand and the whiskers are gone in no time. So Merkur should just stop manufacturing these blades and let the brands who know their stuff do the job :)

I found these blades to be irritating to my skin. I've purchased several packages and each time I found the blades unable to delivery a clean, reliable shave due to the toughness of my beard. However, I don't believe them to be terrible, just an uninspiring shave.
