Merkur 38c

Can I get some opinions on the Merkur 38c long handle compared to the EJ de89? I noticed it carries quite a bit more weight than a lot of other razors.

Sure, I have and use both. Love 'em both. As far as shaving characteristics, they're similar. Medium agressive. EJ has a better reputation for finish quality but I give the edge to the 38C because of the weight and it's comfortable in my big hands. I would part with neither and there's no bad choice.

I Love my 38c. I have a merkur 38c and a gillette tech (1940s) my 38c is my favorite razor, and i use that one most of the time. the weight of the razor is fantastic! highly recommended

I have owned both. I found the 38C to be a fair bit more aggresive than the DE89. Both great razors though. The DE89 is a bit more forgiving.
