Merkur 38c my new razor

Hello Gentlemen,
I have been using my new 38c and yes it took 3 days to adjust to its weight but I have arrived with a shave I believe is as close to a straight as is possible.
I had been using a progress for over 2 years and was in the hunt for a new razor. I usually shaved with the progress on 3 or 3.5 and received great close shaves. Then I went on holiday with my progress packing it in the plastic container that it comes with. You must dial it down in order for it to fit in the case. I had it on 1. Well upon arrival, the next morning forgetting to re adjust the blade back to 3 , I received a fantastic close shave on 1.
I used the 1 setting for about a week and my shaves were pretty close if not the same when I had it on 3 but without the aggressiveness. Hence my search for a closed comb razor that delivered a close shave and had some weight. I narrowed my choice down to a EJ Chatsworth or the Merkur 38c. I decided to go with the 38c :thumbup1: he first shave I learned a lesson with a good cut on my cheek. Apply no pressure with this razor just let it slide across your face and do the work. This morning, I was rewarded with a super 3 pass shave. The last pass was against the grain. Something I never did with the progress.
In addition it looks fantastic. You really have to get your shaving technique in order. I have found by applying no pressure and less strokes in each pass have helped me learn how to use his magnificent shaving machine.
Best Regards
Andy

Th 38HD C razors are great. I started with one and will only get rid of it when it dies. I have a second that is one of my two travel razors. Good choice.

Outstanding you like the 38C (the Alliance of Merkur - how to join...http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/314463-Alliance-of-Merkur-how-to-join?highlight=merkur)!

I too have one (besides the 23C), and find this razor (which I use only at home), to be moderately priced, heavy (a monster :letterk1: at 4oz. Agreed...longer strokes and let the razor do the work), two (2), piece, long handled (great for those who have 'bear claws'

for hands), 3½in and in my opinion...is a fairly mild and very smooth, straight bar/closed combed razor which is perfect for my normal beard and
sensitive skin.

Q. What blade(s) are you working with?

After using numerous brand of blades over many, many years, I found my 'go-to' blade in Voskhod (or Восход...which

'Sunrise' in Russian)! I've found these blades to be 'awesome', moderately sharp (almost as sharp as a KAI, but much smoother & cheaper), and forgiving (perfect) with no pulling or tugging. I also found them very, very smooth, (albeit a 'weeper' now & then..but zero 'nicks'), with no irritation and/or razor burn that 99.9% of the time results in CCS's in 3 passes (WTG, CTG & ATG). I get 2 great shaves per blade (I shave every-other day with Saturdays as my shaving 'day off'), plus they are very compatible with both my 23C & 38C.

Count you are right on. I really like this razor. Another close and smooth shave this morning. I have to re educate myself with each pass. No pressure, long strokes and just let the razor do the work not you. It is the weight I think that makes it a shaving machine. Plus it looks great:001_tt1:
I have been using personna med preps. I find them sharp, smooth and long lasting. I usually get about a weeks worth of great shaves on one blade. In my next order I might have to give the voskhods a try.
Thanks for the comments
