Merkur 180 + Feather on Head shave.FREE AT LAST!

So, the second ever shave I did with the 180 was a head shave. I was a bit nervous, but I've been shaving my head for 20yrs. It went great! The razor had already seen on full face shave, ATG, XTG, WTG. I left it in and it took off my head stubble with ease. I decided to touch up my face shave and even after a total face shave and head shave, it still left me feeling great doing my face again as well.

I was thinking I may have to stick with the Gillette Proglide for my head, but...NOPE!

I'm free of the cartridges for good!

Not a single nick and no razor burn. My head and face are smoooooth. :)

So, I shared my excitement with a housemate and she showed me a razor a friend of her's gave her. It's a vintage gold plated Schick injector razor. Looks perfect. Nice heavy weight to it. She, her son, and her daughter in law all use DE razors to shave. I showed her my Merkur 180 and she liked it.

I am so happy I found a shaving kit that works perfectly for me right away. I can see some vintage razors in my future. ;)

Congrats Dean! When I converted to a DE I went straight into shaving my head with it, like you I had a few years' experience shaving my head with a cartridge and had no problems going to the DE. I actually nicked myself more often with the cart.

Hi Dean,

That's great news that you've kicked those carts into touch! Glad your shave went well.

If you want to talk some more about head shaving, check out how other chaps are doing it, or maybe just to shoot the breeze about how awesome it is being bald, you should check out THIS THREAD.

I've been shaving my head with clippers for a few years, and I've been wanting to do a good razor shave for a whole. I've always been too afraid of the irritated mess that my cartridges would have initially caused. I'm shaving my face with a DE now, and I'm tempted to try my head.

Is it just something your scalp needs to get used to?

If you have a decent DE technique and your scalp is as sensitive or unsensitive as the skin on your face then there's no reason why your scalp shouldn't be ok. There are guys who have more sensitive skin on their heads than their faces, personally, I'm the other way round. I can throw more at my scalp than my face - go figure.

Did you have trouble with using carts on your face? Was this resolved with DE shaving? Have you actually used carts on your head yet? Like I said, if you're happy with your technique for face shaving then you should give it a try on your head. Check out the head shavers thread to get some great advice on that first shave!

Good luck

Way to take the plunge, Dean! I had only intended to do the top when I first tried the DE, but ended up doing the whole dome and had results like yours. I usually shave my head after the blade has already seen three full three-pass shaves, so you shouldn't have any issues on blade sharpness. I still have my old Mach 3 Turbo with ten or so cartridges sitting around, but it's going to be a very long time before they see the light of day again. The experience was... liberating.
