Melting Williams

Anything that has tallow, will burn in the microwave. You can slowly melt it with a double boiler. Milling is probably easier.

Carve it, shred it, soften it in warm water and smoosh it... but from what I understand it won't melt right. (Although some guys here might just tell you to microwave it on high for 10 minutes just to see a puck of Williams go down in flames**)

**Do not do this

Can you melt Williams Shave Soap in the microwave or will that ruin it? Or do you have to mill it?

Sir, you are making the assumption that it is not RUINED after leaving the factory and before putting it into microwave. That's a mighty big assumption

Or to put it another way... putting Williams in the microwave will cause it to lather just as poorly as it did before you put it in there! :tongue_sm

Yep double boiler is the only option...but the best idea is to grate, or put it in a food processer and then put it in a container.

The other haters must be asleep, or enjoying shaves with quality soaps or creams.

So here's more proof from my trusty Oxford's Unabridged Dictionary (12 massive volumes):

ru·in -- verb. To destroy completely; demolish or harm irreparably something in good working condition or that previously had the ability to lather and not smell like bug repellent or oil soap and dry out your skin. See Picture:

You'll have to mill it into a container, melting is out of the question. Purely in the interest of "stirring" the pot here WILLIAMS IS GREAT!!!

I'm tempted to mill a few pucks into a big container that I can just lather directly on it, no shortage of product, just keep adding water and piling it on and on and on and see what happens. Heh.

You should edit your avatar...it should read "putting Williams in its place"...:thumbup1:

No Microwave!! I did the double boiler after milling and added TBS Maca Root(yeah it was one of those evil genius nights!!). You will end up with a large ball of snot/taffy crap! It is not worth it. Here are my recommends...

1)Put Puck into Nalgene 4oz wide mouth or find the dollar store equivalent.

2)After attaining a tight fit... Pour about 1/4 tspn of hot water(hard, mine, or not) cap.

3) After sitting for a day or so press your finger on it and see if it is soft. If so wip it up and lather!!

Now before I catch crap... I Like/Love Williams. I just find these steps make it easier. I can and do lather the puck with out said steps... They just make it easier. Hence why I keep two pucks of active Williams around, one softened and one not.

Did/will it ever solidify as before if left open to dry out the moisture?

Does it soften sufficiently to become liquified, perhaps with more water?

In one word...

No!

+1

Mill it and double boiler to combine with other soaps if you want.
I have milled remnants of shave sticks and combined them with Glycerin soaps to make a decent lathering combo.

DO NOT MICROWAVE!!

Mill the William's Soap up with equal parts TABAC to make it last longer.

Now that should get this thread moving.
