Melting Palmolive shave sticks

I just won an auction for two Shulton OS Mugs :thumbup1: Been after one for a month or so and managed to snag two within minutes of each other.

So I plan to fill one with Palmolive Shave Sticks and the other with either a Boots Puck or some Erasmic Shave Sticks.

My question is this. What is the best way to melt these into the mug? Can I just cut the Palmolive into thin slices and then put the mug into a pan of boiling water? or would it be best to use a cheese grater and pack it down that way? can it be nuked in the Microwave or will that ruin it altogether?

Grater indeed.

I shave most of the time with a 50/50 melange of Palmolive and Tabac. This is how I mix them and put them in a bowl:
Grate the stick(s) into flakes. Put the flakes in the new recipient, sprinkle a bit of hot water over it, put a layer of cling film on top and gently compact the mass with your fingers, leveling the surface. Remove the cling film when done.

Best regards,
Bart.

You do this to tone down the scent of tabac, to stretch it, or what?

DON'T NUKE THE PALMOLIVE!!! (don't ask me how I know:blushing:)

The Boot's puck fits if you shave off some of the edges (put the pieces in the bottom) and "smoosh" the rest in.

If the Erasmic is the glycerin one it will melt ok (but makes the microwave a bit wiffy).

Cheese grater is the best option...one of the flat ones is easier to hold over the mug.

It started when someone donated me a stick of Tabac. I liked the lather, but found the scent too poignant. I also didn't like the shave stick format. So the stick ended up unused in my shaving cabinet. Then I inherited 2 Palmolive sticks from my deceased father in law. Around that same time, I ran out of my usual "Plisson shaving soap". I decided to mix the Palmolive and the Tabac together, and that's what I've been using ever since. It performs just like Tabac, and I like the scent, now that it's not as intrusive anymore.

Best regards,
Bart.

I just mashed one down into a container. Not sure exactly how to do that in a really deep mug--maybe do it most of the way outside the mug and finish inside--but you'll want to mash it down even harder if you use a grater.

So I guess the Cheese Grater is the way to go then. Will be popping to Tesco for some Palmolive sticks today and hopefully the OS Mugs will arrive sometime this week :thumbup1:

Grater it is, the same thing I did with arko stick. Perfect for bowl use but people remember: use boar brush with great backbone to load the stick. It is some kind of hard soap and needs to be scratched violently to make a dense lather. Tried lathering pressed arko stick with badger brush. Total failure. Very foamy. So I decided to bring to the game omega pro 49. Excellent long lasting lather. Perfect as hell my friends.

Wow just realized its a 7 year old thread. My answer was late for only.... 7 years!

You can also just cut it into slices with a kitchen knife. Palmolive is generally crumbly but it works find with a few drops of water to bind things. I don't know that melting is ever a good idea. Not sure that the scents are the same if it heats up too much.

I sliced down a Palmolive stick with a sharp knife, like whittling a stick, and packed the shavings in a mug. Works great
