Melt me into something nice

What kind of containers do you guys like to melt (or mill) your soap into? I'm planning on melting a puck of Col Conk bay rum into something classier than the plastic it came in. I have a couple available mugs and bowls, though nothing with a top (how important is that?), and I thought it'd be cool to see what good options others have come up with.

I currently use 1 cup Pyrex containers, pick them up at WallyWorld in a 4 pack. At my walmart they come with red lids

Can you use the double boiler method to melt soap into a wooden bowl, or would I have to use the microwave method if the container's made of wood?

I have done some searching for stackable short mugs, and come up with nothing. There are many small containers that stack. But, they slip inside the container below, which means the bottom of the container on top will ride down on the soap in the lower container. What is needed is a bowl or mug that stacks at the lid level.

I'm experimenting with molding bakable clay into the shape I want. If it works, then I might make a mold and create 10 or 15 of them for my soaps.

(As an aside, I don't lather in the mug/container holding the soap. Rather I fill my brush with soap and lather in a separate bowl. This means that the container holding the soap doesn't have to be too large.)

I happen to be a woodworker. My solution, since I have access to a lathe is I plan on making a set of stacking bowls for my soaps. This way the top bowl serves as a lid to the lower one and I'll spin a lid for just the top one. Each bowl is turned to fit the typical plastic packed soap perfectly with a bit of a lip on it. I'll end up with a variety of woods for each soap, stacked in a sort of tower taking less counter/shelf space. This way as my mood changes I can grab the soap I want,, it'll look neat in the wood bowl,,and have a stack of as many different woods/soaps as I feel like making or having. I've already made a neat looking ( I think) bowl/lid as well as stand for the razor and brush to hang all in one package out of Cherry.

Exactly! Now, what is needed is for someone to make these cheaply in bulk. It's a business opportunity waiting...

Take a look at ramekins. I know Walmart and Target carry 6oz stackable versions for about $20 for four. They have lips on the inside to keep what you described from happening.

That sounds like a great idea! Show us some pics when it's complete.

I use some vintage teacups that are nice and wide at the top and have a handy finger-sized handle. Check out a thrift store, antiques store, or estate sale store and I'm sure you'll find all kinds of unique containers.

You should be able to melt the soap in a different bowl and while still pour able just pour it in to the wooden bowl.
