Measuring a Blade

The razor I am working on measures 11/16 deep.
Is this considered a 5/8 blade?

It is an AW Wadsworth XLNT.

Personally, I refer to blades that size as just that, 11/16. Most would call it a 5/8 though.

That would seem to make sense, wouldn't it?
I have always seen them measured in 8ths, though. Maybe I should call it a "5.5/8" razor...

The blade is really the gap between the razors edge and the honing edge.

Some razors have a huge spine for added weight.

Most NOS English and German razors tend to measure well over the stated width if you measure the full width.

I get upset at the guys who sell a 4/8" razor with a tall spine as a 5/8" razor. That for me is misrepresentation of the razor.

I don't want an argument about it, but for new razor shavers who are looking for a 5/8" starter razor, a worn out 5/8" razor with a heavy spine, is not the same thing.

Bottom line, let the buyer beware and ask before you buy.

The key question is, what was the original width of the blade. If you can not get an answer, don't buy the blade.
