I saw your post and ordered some too.
I used a bic for the first time in a long time and was surprised at the size of the flame. Almost scorched my rim.
I figure if they don't work out for pipe usage, there will be other uses around the house.
I have one at the office in case I have a desire for a quick smoke at work. It's a nice lighter. Just wish it was refillable.
I purchased a functioning Nimrod on the auction site for $21.50 shipped.
Zippo lighters for me. Make sure you get one made for pipes.

I got a half dozen of the little zebra-striped lighters @OkieStubble posted, and I love those. Just about perfect. Wish they were decent quality and refillable, though.
Finally tried out the EZ Reach Bic lighter, worked pretty well. Won't replace my Zippos though.
