marvy shave soap?

wondered if anyone has tried the marvy brand shave soap and what their opinion is. my local barber supply sells a cardboard sleeve with i think 10 pucks for $12.00. would like to give it a try but dont want to get into that many soaps before getting a little feedback on the stuff. seems to be a very old brand used by barbers back when you could get a shave at the shop.

Wish I could help you out. I've often wondered about this stuff myself...also about Stephans shaving soap cakes.

I would love to hear some feedback on these exclusively barber shop brands.

hopefully will get some responses on the soap. you mentioned stephans. i picked up a bottle of their bay rum for about 6 bucks and it is awesome. does'nt last long, but a true barber shop smell. i have loads of different bay rums, and if you have'nt tried stephans you definately should!

I haven't tried their bay rum, but I have used their Apline Menthol and it is fantastic. Very cooling and refreshing.

If there were a competition for the cheapest shaving stuff Marvy would definitely win. The brush looks like it came out of a gumball machine. It might be interesting for the Williams fans to compare it. Buy one to test and let it soak in hot water for an hour before you even try to lather it.

I'm fairly sure there's a review or thread around here somewhere for it. And, IIRC it didn't get a lot of love.

OR, I could be completely wrong about either one (or both) of those statements.

I hope it's better than their boar brush, which is the single worst brush in the entire universe.

haven't tried the marvy brush. But it couldn't be much worse than $15 for a Bass boar brush I returned. Half of the knot was just that, literally a knot of tangled hairs. I tried to comb it out, which did nothing but pull out a bunch of hairs and broke 3 teeth on the comb. I prefer the vdh brush even with it's shedding issues.

I have used Marvy shaving soap and it's a good product as is their line of barber supplies. They make outstanding shaving mugs and are one of the "old time" lines still in existence. They are to my knowledge the last manufacturer of barber pole signs.

I have a puck of Marvy, not the best soap ever. Pretty hard for me to get a good lather and tends to dry my face out like no other. I really like the scent though. Kind of a sweet almond if I'm not mistaken. I'll have to have another sniff when I get home. If you can afford to spend $12 on a soap you might not like, I'd say go for it. If you don't like it you could PIF the rest on the condition that people write up a review to get more info on board.

When I first glanced at this thread I thought it said "Marry shave soap"

I thought...thats it...I'm off the boards for good!

I tried Marvy's, it not too bad, it's a step up from Williams IMO but not as good as Arko, for soaps in this price range I would go with VDH Deluxe or Arko.

Interested in trying Marvy's at the shop, but Arko is my signature brand and id hate to violate that relationship, It just feels wrong.
