What's new

Man down today

Had a bottle of Floris Santal on my bathroom counter today while I was getting ready for work. After brushing my hair I put the brush down and, in the process, knocked the Santal off the counter and on to the tile floor. I bought this bottle at Floris' shop on Jermyn Street in London and it had become one of my favorite scents. I'm going to miss it and more so because I lost it due to carelessness.

Another life cut short by the tile floor of a den! Sad sad day. makes me wish for carpet in the bathroom, or just a parachute system on every bottle. Sorry for your loss. Terrible to lose a piece with sentimental value too.

On the bright side it's a perfect time for a replacement or charting new territory.

Indeed indeed... Every time I reach for the Floid Blue... and now my extremely large (and not inexpensive) bottle of Eucris... I am handling them like the arming device for a nuclear bomb.

But I loves me my tile floor.
Had carpet when we moved in, yanked it quickly. Went with stick-down tile for a while, and tiled it 10 years ago.

I'd read a story of the 'invention' of mocassins. A chief stubbed his toe and demanded the earth carpeted with leather so he wouldn't do it again. After struggling with how to do this, the men decided to wrap the chief's feet in leather instead.

So instead of carpeted floors, maybe we should invent a 'bottle wrap'

I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. Try to remember the good times with FS - no one can take away the memories.

I have a shelf in my bathroom at about shoulder level (around five feet off of the tile floor) and I forget what happened exactly but it ended up falling off of the wall. Interesting enough not a single bottle of cologne broke (and I had about 20 then).

I know it's hard when you've lost one that you are so fond of, but I suggest you try to move on quickly and find another that you can learn to love. Surely, none will replace this one completely, but in time, you may learn to appreciate your new fragrance nearly as much as you loved the dearly departed.

I will likely replace it eventually. I have Penhaligons lp9 which reminds me a bit of Santal, but smells more synthetic to my nose...not quite the same.

You have my condolences, but perhaps there's something I can do to alleviate the pain for one of our Active Duty members. I've got a 2/3rd's full bottle of Floris Santal AS. PM me your address and it's yours. Consider it a thank you for your service and while a poor substitute for the EdT, it will at least hold you over till you can replace the bottle. (By the way, they sell the EdT at Pasteur's in NYC).

I feel for you. A couple weeks ago I found I had 3 5ml decants of montale black aoud so I decided to combine them all into one big 15ml...well right after i finished pouring them all together I knocked the whole thing all over the floor before I had screwed the atomizer on...I ended up with one 5ml decant in a big bottle and a very fragrant bathroom. I was really annoyed just from that decant, I would be heartbroken if I lost a whole bottle!
My only consolation was that since black aoud lasts FOREVER on clothes I grabbed a sweater I had and mopped up what I could so I could put on that sweater now and then and reclaim a bit of my spilt juice :biggrin1:

So at least you can enjoy the scent of your bathroom for the next week or so!

It's easy to remember with that scent in your bathroom. I knocked over a 30 ml bottle (nearly full) of Creed Aventus in my bathroom and I thought about it every day when I smelled that scent. The most expensive air freshener I ever used!!!!!
