I'm very sorry to read this very bad news of the founder of this creation and soap passing away.I’ve been using Mama Bear soaps and aftershave balm for a couple of years. The quality and fragrance haven’t changed, imho. I’m very into the menthol fragrances.
They also make excellent jams.
Sue Clark, the founder, passed on recently. I just received an email yesterday:
Mama Bear's Founder Passes
“I just thought you might like to know!
It's been over 5 years since I met Sue Clark- the founder and original Mama Bear! We met at a craft show, I was a teacher looking for a new career and Sue was looking to retire. This is one of Sue's last Facebook post as the owner of Mama Bears Soaps and Gift Shop
Just so you guys know.. I sold the biz to my younger clone.. She's got a million times more energy than I do.. I love her.. Mama Bears Soaps went to the right place and is in good hands.. And I am not going anywhere. My body is falling apart.. Jennifer will bring new energy in. I am beyond grateful to have found the right person to pass it on to. Thank you Jennifer for everything! I look forward to the future! Jen is amazing! I am honored.
Her last message to me on August 28th was I'm good.. it's ok you sexy hunk of a woman.
It's with great sadness to say she has passed away this week. I know she loved all of her customers as family! She was very proud of the business she created and I am very thankful to carry on her legacy. I am so glad she was able to enjoy at least 5 years of her retirement. She was definitely one of a kind! I will miss her messages! To honor her, please make your next shave, a Mama Bear's Shave!modal=suggested_action¬if_id=1552587345357859¬if_t=page_user_activity&ref=notif
So sorry to hear of Sue's passing. When I started this "hobby" I bought a ton of her products (probably still have a couple tubs of her soap hidden somewhere in a linen closet). Performance was first-rate and scents always spot on. Sue was a pleasure to deal with.I’ve been using Mama Bear soaps and aftershave balm for a couple of years. I agree about trying out before committing and I’d add that, “one man’s meat is anther man’s poison”.Sorry to hear of the founder's passing. Sounds like she was a wonderful person.
I just tried two of the shave sticks. First, I appreciate the quality of the container itself. This is not to be taken for granted. I've bought some sticks where the bottom falls off, the mechanism to advance the soap upward doesn't work, and of course there are cheap brands that come in paper and foil. Mama Bear's soap sticks by comparison come in a container that is good enough to be reused when the original soap is gone.
The performance of the soap is excellent. It lathers right up no problem even when using my floppy horse hair brush. Plenty of slickness and it leaves the skin feeling moisturized. Scent wise: the Cedarwood is very weak- just a vague woody slightly smokey scent. The Rosemary Peppermint only smells like peppermint. It has a distinct cooling sensation and leaves my face feeling refreshed. That being said, I am disappointed there is not more of a rosemary note.
I would highly recommend giving Mama Bear's soaps a try if you haven't already. But I would suggest getting 3-4 of the 1.5oz. size so you can find out which fragrances you like. I was expecting "warm" smelling seasonal scents that I like for fall and winter. But both of my selections fell short in that expectation.
The sticks are great. Just wet the face, rub it on and lather. No need to bloom or load a brush. I enjoy bowl lathering most of the time but am really enjoying the simplicity of using these shaving sticks.I agree about trying out before committing and I’d add that, “one man’s meat is anther man’s poison”.
Or, in my case: my wife’s, lol.
I like stronger scents than she does (esp cedarwood). So a subtle scent is what I’m looking for, regardless of type.
I like all the Mama Bear’s menthol line that I’ve tried, so far. You’ve got me curious about the sticks, now. I need a new one. Thanks for the tip.
I'll second the comment on the quality of the containers, specifically those for soap pucks. Using one now to hold and lather up a puck from another maker.Sorry to hear of the founder's passing. Sounds like she was a wonderful person.
