No sheath, the guy has a leaning-stand-kinda-thing that holds it up at an angle and protects the blade.

The 'spoon' was just to flatten out a spot big enough for the touchmark... BUT, I'm gonna go with this:

That - is a built-in snurdeler.

and pretend it was on purpose!
