Lubricating a Futur

Not so long ago I saw a post regarding the hardness on moving a Merkur Futur's dial. Well, it has started happening to me:sad:...

During the last weeks it has become more and more difficult to move the dial up and down, and more dangerous indeed. I'm using Col Clonk's soap, and I think it's leaving a lot of residues on the razor, although I clean it as well as I can.

A few days ago I solved the problem using one drop of mineral oil on the inner screw, without even dissasembling it:thumbup1:. ¡My fingers are a bit safer now!

I just wanted to share my experience in case other members in the forum may have had the same problem.

You should try corn oil next time, it suspends particles and away from metal components. It works well with miniature gear and bearings.

Thank you for the idea, but it's not so easy to find this kind of oil around here. It'd be easier for me to find olive oil, wich is not good at all for this purpose:wink2:.

Good to know that corn oil is good for this. I've been using mineral oil to lube all of my TTO razors.

Yes, you are correct, but the fatty acids in Corn oil have corrosion inhibiting properties.

I didn't know some acids prevent form corrosion, in my experience olive oil corrodes steel, but I've never used the corn one.

It's always a good moment to learn new things!

Yeah it has to do with the composition of the fatty acids in Corn oil. They're the monomeric kind which inhibit corrosion.
