Lord Blade Skips But Gives A Good Shave

I've been using a SS Lord blade in the blue cardboard box. When I shave with this blade it doesn't glide like other blades instead it skips like when you take a squeegee and run it over your car windows it skips and drags a bit. What I don't get is the blades that glide seem to give me a slightly better shave but I get rash, burn on my neck. The Lord blade gives me a really nice shave and I don't get much if any stinging when I use my alum block and no razor burn. I've used 5 blades so far and after I'm done shaving I keep thinking my face is going to be a mess but it never is. Thoughts?

I'm no expert, but I've experienced both of these situations. I don't think it's a blade issue; I think it may be a lather issue. It sounds to me that your lather may be just a touch too thin, and not offering the best protection it could. (What type of soap/cream do you use?)

With a thicker, more protective lather, the Lord may not skip anymore, and the blades that glide likely won't leave you so irritated.

As always, YMMV.

When you say it might be a lather issue that means I need to add more water or less?

Hard to say from this distance; usually lather issues come from too much water and taking too little time to work up the lather. On the other hand too little water can make the lather so thick shaving close is a problem. Especially with Cella not enough water causes the blade loosing contact with my skin but with most other soaps not that much water is needed IMO.

You did take your time asking this, MikeC! :biggrin1:

I was shaving with a Sensor for awhile but went back to a DE this week. The Lord SS blade has always been a favourite of mine. I shaved and had some skipping, tugging nothing really bad but the end result was great. When I use other blades all things being equal the shave is smooth but I get irritation.
