Looking to fill in the blanks.

I 'm looking to add to my collection a bit in the different knot sizes - I'm looking for things that once you get them, you tend to keep them.


I primarily use MWF, Tabac, Euro Palmolive and Arko...face lathering.


I'm looking to fill in the 23mm, 24mm and 25mm slots. Money isn't a huge concern as such...but let's say you have a limit of $200-$250 per brush.


I know this is a YMMV type of thing...but I'm still interested to see what the various opinions might be.


Currently my "first string" regular rotation includes:


Rooney Finest 2/1 22mm


23mm - open
24mm - open
25mm -open


Simpson 59 2 Band Super 26mm


Simpson Tulip 4 Super 27mm


Simpson Chubby 2 Best 28mm


Vulfix 41 Silvertip 29mm

24mm - Savile Row 3824

Several options come to mind:

1) Savile Row in the knot size you are looking at
2) Simpson Hive Manchurian, as I think there are some still available
3) Thater 4125/1 - two-band or three band
4) Rooney Super - say around a 1/2 or 3/1

If you want a real change of pace drop down to a Simpson Chubby 1 or Duke 2 to throw in a smaller brush that still performs wonderfully.

Great minds think alike...

I've been taking a close look at the D01s...tossing it around between a fan and bulb...probably in 3 band.

I also have to say, the Vie-Long Beehive in 25mm looks very enticing.

The SR is a Shavemac isn't it? If so...is it the regular Silvertip or D01 hair?

The Rooney 3/2 Super is pretty nice at 24mm. Do you think it would easily out-perform the 24mm SOC 2 Band I just sold?

I've been sorely tempted to get a Chubby 1 just to have all three of them...I assume that the short handle thing can be overcome after a while?

I would look to go with a Duke 3 2 Band (24 or 25) as well...but not sure it would add much to the Simpson 59 2 Band in 26mm.

I just was looking at the brushes you use and tried to guess what different you'd prefer.

The SR is like Shavemac's regular Silvertip bulb.
The D01 fan is one of my favourite knots with very light scrub similar to M&F Blonde, and resilient hair.
The VL is very soft, almost like Thäter, the hair is thinner but the great density and short loft keep the knot together.
BTW a Rooney 2-band Heritage Emilion or Stubby is going to be another great choice.
