Looking to buy a Gillette Flare tip

Hey guys, I need some honest advice.

I currently own a few safety razors and want to expand my collection.
I own a Merkur HD, Gillette 1949 Super Speed, and a 1961 Fatboy. I find that the '49 superspeed is not agressive enough for me (i only use it for next day shaves). The merkur HD is awesome but its hard for me to use the next day with an against the grain pass, its way to aggressive.

Where does the Gillette Flare tip stand? Is it aggressive? How does it stack up against a '48-49 superspeed in aggression?

Please let me know before I buy.

Thanks

the list does not include a gillette flare tip. At least I cant find it on the list. I still dont know the answer. I need more help!

To me the answer is yes, the flare tip is more aggressive than the 40's Super Speed. I find the I like the mid-50's Super Speed the best and I find myself reaching for my 54 more than the others.

I have a 48-49 SS and a 59 Flare Tip. I find the 59 is more aggressive than the 48-49. Using Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharps (Yellow Russians) I get a VERY comfortable shave experience.

I'm still working my way through multiple vintage Gillette razor-and-blade combinations, but thus far the 59 Flair Tip with 7 O'Clock Yellows is my favorite Gillette razor.

I think my 50s style Flare Tip SuperSpeed is slightly less aggressive than my 40s style SuperSpeed, but it has been awhile since I've used it, which means my memory might not be as good. If you are wanting to stay within the general Super Speed style of razors and are still looking for something more aggressive than your current 40s style one, then you might consider the Red Tip. It's known for having a bit more blade exposure and when this factor is combined with the extra weight, it makes for a more aggressive shaver. I think I've heard it compared to about a 6-7 on a Fat Boy or a Slim. And speaking of the Fat Boy, is the one that you have not able to provide an aggressive enough shave? If you are wanting a more aggressive shave, I would be inclined to just use the Fat Boy and dial up higher. And then if you are wanting to expand your DE experience, consider something with an open comb like a Single Ring or a pocket edition Old Type, or a New Improved.
