...in a Wahl home hair cut kit that my Mom used to cut my hair back in the 50's:
It's original role was apparently to be the "barber brush" to wipe off errant hair after the clipping. (BTW - the Wahl clippers are in pristine condition as well...) I looked at it and knew that older synthetic brushes aren't generally well regarded. Then I said, "What the heck!" and lathered it up with some Razorock Fresco. To my surprise, even though it has about zero backbone, it picked up the soap quite nicely for a 20 second load and gave me a great, soft face lathering through 2 passes + cleanup. I've tried it with one of my hard soaps and it didn't do as well, but with my my Italian soft soaps (Fresco, Omega, Valobra Menthol) it works like a champ. The small size (Knot/Loft/Height - 18/45/92) makes it a great travel brush.
I know that most of the time vintage brushes get re-knotted before they see much use. Anyone else out there having success with a vintage brush with its original knot? (Especially if it's a synthetic...). What are you lathering with? Do you bowl/face/palm lather? Tell us your story!
