L'Occitane Cade or AOS

Alright guys, I am leaving shortly for the mall, and thanks to Paul's (s1mp13m4n) PIF of a puck of Williams, my first soap, I now want to buy another soap to try. I will be able to choose between the L'Occitane Cade and any of the Art of Shaving soaps. I see both get mostly positive reviews, but if you could only buy/use one, which would it be?

If I understand correctly, the AOS is tallow based vs. the Cade being vegetable based. Also, between the different AOS soaps, the performance is the same, just differing in scent. Correct?

Yes, ymmv and all that jazz, and of course I should (probably will :blushing:) buy both, but I am asking for a choice from those experienced with using both. If you have tried both AOS and Cade, please state your preference below. Thanks!

Cade is really nice, AOS too, but I'll take Cade over it most days. Works better for me for some reason or another, and I'm a tallow head.

Cade is an excellent soap and I would rather have it over AoS. Price is an issue even for the puck of AoS, at $26 I would rather have a puck of Truefitt & Hill.

AoS. It lathers like a dream, and you'll have 5 scents to choose from. Cade is very good as well (particularly for the scent), but I find it a bit finicky to lather well, YMMV.

I've been meaning to try the AOS soap, as there is a shop in the mall next to the office. However, I always balk at the price and the relatively small puck you get.

Cade, on the other hand, is affordable and does a terrific job. I love the scent and use the Cade AS, as well. I've actually finished a puck of Cade and have been very pleased with it. If you enjoy the scent, I'd look into getting both the Cade soap and AS. A wonderful combination!

I was curious about tallow soaps, but decided instead to give Mitchell's Wool Fat, Irisch Moos and Tabac a try. I love all three and all are (IMHO) a better deal than AOS. Comparing Cade to tallow soap, I enjoy the tallow a little better, but not $20-$25 better than Cade. The quality of the Cade AS really makes the deal for me.

Definitely AOS. And that's no knock on Cade, but AOS soaps are the tops. Don't worry about the cost, it's going to last you quite a while.

Unscented, Lavender, Lemon, Sandalwood....yup, got me there. I missed Sesame Street this morning :001_unsur.

They have another scent, that of their terrific rose cream, which is just begging to be made into a soap. :mad3:

If all you're figuring is dollar and ounces, you're probably right, but that doesn't take performance into account. I can't say that you'd try AOS and feel any differently than you do, but I can say AOS is the best soap I've used in terms of performance. Worth the price? Hard to say. If it smelled better, I'd probably say yes, but as it is, the scent provides me a pretty big disincentive for using it.

You can't really lose. I have both, love both, both perform like champs. You can't ignore the $10 price tag on a Cade refill.

AoS, no questions asked. It is worth every penny more than the Cade. I happen to be allergic to Cade, so that may bias my input, but AoS is one of my favorites.

I have and have tried the cade along with the 4 scents I can find of AOS. Cade is one of my favorites. Any AOS is my favorite

Thanks guys. I went with the Cade for now. Once technique improves I will make a return trip for the AOS. Of the AOS scents, I thinked I prefered the Sandalwood.

Birds of a different feather IMHO. AOS is a classic tallow rich soap, with nice scents although it has a clay base note that I'm not fond of. Cade is a refined scent with a lighter veggie based consistency but a good latherer for its class. Two different types of shave soaps and both good in their own right. :001_smile
