Litte blood... again

As some of you may recall, a couple of weeks ago I inadvertently cut my finger whilst reaching for something while I had dropped and neglecting to put my razor down first. I did something similar today.

I decided that tomorrow would be a straight razor morning. Since I wake up so early, I thought I'd strop my 5/8 dovo best quality. Afterwards I thought, "What the hell? Let me take care of my gold dollar while I'm at it." I did 50 on the fabric webbing. In between sets, I usually rub my palm on the leather side to warm it up a bit. To be safe, I close the razor up and set it down before doing this. However, this time it slipped out of my hand and fell to the ground. Having learned my lesson from last time, the only thing I did was get the hell out of the way. It fell to the ground... my strops are in my closet so it fell on a carpeted floor. It's impossible to tell for sure, but I thought it landed on the spine side... picked it up, checked it out... seems ok. Just in case, let me run it a few times over the crox side of my filly, the only thing I have that might sharpen a razor even a little bit. Ran it over a few times... looks good; will see how it shaves in a couple of days. Thought to myself, "man I'm glad I didn't grab at that thing... could've sliced my fingers all up"

Wiped the blade on my wool sweater. 30 more on fabric, and decided to do 50 on my filly strop. Got through it and was checking out the edge again and then I saw it. Blood on my pinky. Guess I wasn't able to get out of the way quickly enough.

Last time I knew right away I got cut. This time, I went through a whole stropping routine without realizing... this cut seemed longer, but probably not as deep. Once discovered, I became a little concerned that I had gotten blood everywhere. None on my sweater, none on my filly strop, a couple of drops on my floor and a little smearing on the leather side of my 3" black latigo VB strop :(

I'm usually not a clumsy person, I swear. I'm starting to think perhaps my razors are out to get me.

pics... not that big of a deal really.

That's a lovely little cut! I am dreading the ineveitable blood baths my first few times will be.

Well, other than a minor nick here or there, I have yet to cut my face in any significant manner :):knocks on wood::). Perhaps this is part of my problem... Getting to somewhere between SAS and DFS came quite easily to me. I just never had an issue with WTG shaving, and I'm getting the hang of XTG... ATG still is an issue, but I'm making progress. As a result, perhaps I've just not learned to treat the razor with the proper care and respect. I still maintain that I'm not a clumsy person, but obviously I've been careless these last couple of weeks. I told myself last time that I needed to find a new respect for straight shaving... and to some degree I think I have; just not when handling the razor away from the sink.

I'm not a straight shaver....yet....but it seems to me the shallow cuts always take a bit for the blood to come out. With all the recent holiday packaging I've cut myself several times on cardboard or paper and have looked at it to think I've only got a scratch only to have blood everywhere a minute later.

Reminds me of carpentry and general fixits. Many times I haved stopped work, thinking "where's all this blood coming from?"...never know you've cut yourself until you actually see it...and then, BOY, does it start to hurt!

I didn't realize I did this, but in that second photo, it looks as if my fingers are parted just enough to see the styptic pencil I keep on my sink... I wonder what that would've been like to apply to this little cut.

You would have quickly realized that cut was connected by a nerve all the way to your *hole. No other way to describe that pain.

The first time I cut myself was when I was trying to wipe some sticky soap'n beard residue from the edge of my first straight.

 well put.

Ouch, looks like you've got a nice bleeder there, I remember the first time i managed to slice myself with my razor, Silly me had my thumb crossing the scales as I Closed the blade, I've got a faint scar crossing my knuckle now as a reminder to not do that again

Sorta looks to be in the same spot as mine too. Oh yeah, my white plastic fantastic dovo is a little vampire, it's gotten me a few times, both on the fingers, and other, awkward places (try explaining how you have a lovely slice on your neck, Espcially if you work with those who have mental health issues, that was quite a "fun" conversation)
