List of Vegetable based soaps?

I'm trying to find a list of non-animal fat soaps but have so far been unsuccessful.

So for those who have lanolin based soaps, what ones are generally well regarded?

All of the non-tallow soaps are vegetable soaps.

So an easier way would be to get a list of tallow soaps, and then use something else. :thumbup1:

Surely anything that's non-tallow would suit you? There are tons and tons of glycerin based soaps and the like that are excellent. Mama bears soaps spring to my mind for an example.

Lanolin isn't a good soap base, just a fantastic addition to the soap. The best lanolin soap is MWF which is tallow based. Honestly I don't know of of any good non tallow soaps with lanolin. Musgo Real and Godrej Deluxe are two very good creams that have lanolin and no tallow. A very good alternative to lanolin is Shea Butter. The French have some terrific vegetable based offerings including Provence Sante, Institute Karite, and Pre de Provence.

Oh! I was under the impression that there were tallow based, lanolin based and glycerin based soaps.

Pardon me then :blushing:

I might as well ask another question since I started this topic. For MWF, the fat part is made from...wool? That can't be right! Right?

MWF is a "tallow first" soap. Tallow is the main (first) ingredient on the list. As someone else said, the lanolin is just a nice addition. If I recall correctly it's fairly far down the ingredient list.

ps...wikipedia says that tallow is beef or mutton fat so the sheep/wool part fits in there too

+1

In fact, you should gather up all the tallow soaps in the world, and send them to me.

Pré de Provence, Provence Santé, Institute Karité, Lothanthique, La Maison du Barbier, Penhaligon's new formula, ...

In MWF soap lanolin is just added to a tallow soap like said. Lanolin is the grease in the sheep wool that makes it 'waterproof'.

The only tallow-based soap I've ever cared about was Tabac, and I can still get as good or better results from VDH Deluxe. That leads me to believe that tallow is not the be-all and end-all that it has come to symbolize here. On the other hand, the clear glycerin soaps have not been that great for me either. I suspect that my skin may be sensitive to ingredients that are common in many soaps but absent in VDH Deluxe.
