What's new

List of current razors manufacturers?

Does Muehle count, since they use Merkur and EJ heads?

Doesn't Gillette still make those flip-top DEs in some markets? I'm thinking of this one which DrIdiot has as a BIN - not an auction link.

Weishi and Pils makes razors.

AFAIK Muehle does not use Merkur heads, but makes their own both heads and handles, so they should definatly count. It is now Muehle that makes the heads for Edwin Jagger, though EJ was involved with the latest head design. EJ used Merkur heads before they switched to Muehle.

A couple of days ago I stumbled across Plisson's website and fell for their safety razors, though at £100 or so I'm loath to buy without an idea of how they shave. A friend's told me they use Fatip heads, which I gather are very aggressive.

Yes but the Wilky is in fact a pakistan Treet. There are Weishi and Ming shi and a lot more chinese razors but it is hard to find out how many are rebranded and which are 'genuine'.

In Italy Fatip is still being made AFAIK and there is the french Joris.

Goodfella from New Zealand is also out there.

Muhle now makes their own heads, they no longer use the Merkur heads. The Muhle heads are also used on the Edwin Jagger razors.

As for Gillette, they do sell the razor you mentioned, along with a Tech that has a plastic handle. I am not convinced they actually make either one, those both appear to be re-branded Lord razors to my eyes.

Yes, don't forget Lord, decent cheap razors. With that Tech type design, everything is so similar that it's hard to tell the difference anyway.

At the other end of the price range, there are Goodfellas. Not recommending, just mentioning.

Mundial and probably a bunch of other labels made in China. Who knows what's made in which factory?

Lord makes some really great razors. The Lord Tech is almost an exact clone of the late model Gillette Tech, that lacked the center positioning tabs. It's all metal construction is pretty durable, and should last a good long time.

They also make two models of razor that have a head that is very similar to a 3 piece Merkur. One of these razors has a plastic handle, and is called the Lord Smart, the other has an aluminum handle. The aluminum handled version (presently not available in the US) is a wonderful razor, regardless of it's budget pricing.

That cheap little bugger has the habbit of turning up in my rotation more than my other razors combined...I just love it! :thumbup1:
