Limes!

OK. I am curious to give the limes a try. The only lime scented anything I have now is the OBR Limes and Peppercorns AS splash, which I really like. So does my wife, but she is not a big fan of bay rum. So I'm looking at all these lime AS splashes that are available, and I really can't decide which I want to try out. So I ask you all.............

....What is the single, most definitive lime AS splash out there? Which one says to all who smell it "I am lime, and you wil love me!"? Which one is the one true lime? I don't want to get out and spend a grip of cash on a whole bunch of different varieties, so I'm looking for the boss lime scent, that all others aspire to be.

I'm sure "YMMV" applies, but anyway, which one do you all think is it?

Booster's Iced Lime is a good aftershave I like to use in the rotation.
I would put the scent in the candied-lime category.
Booster's is great value.

If you're talking purely in terms of scent, Trumper West Indian Limes a/s splash is without peer. It's about as old school as you get, and it will kick the crap out of any and all comers in the lime category. Unfortunately, that also applies to its formulation, which will kick the crap out of your face. Comprised of just alcohol, water and scent (with coloring), it's about as unforgiving an aftershave as I can think of. If your skin can tolerate it, though, it's awesome. I wish mine could.

Side note: it has zero longevity. If you're looking for staying power, look elsewhere.

+1 Love the GFT Limes!

For the fans of TOBS limes: how long does the cologne generally last? At least a few hours? I LOVE the Trumper's lime, but I'm resigned to the fact that it's gone within 10 minutes of being applied (I use the cologne as an aftershave these days, to get the most mileage out of that terrific scent).

theshaveden.com .... .smells like fresh squeezed. yes, really. wonderful stuff. Og's make me drool too, but it's not a single note lime.

The TOBS lime cologne does have considerably more staying power than the Trumper, to be sure. It's been a while since I've worn it, although I just dabbed a little on to refresh my memory. If I recall, I can still smell traces of it after a few hours. In my opinion, though, that longevity comes at the expense of freshness. Straight out of the bottle, the TOBS is a great barbershop, old-school style lime, more complex and "masculine" than the Trumper, and less pure. As it wears, though, the notes start to get a bit steely and harsh for my taste, smelling cheaper the longer it wears. It's a different take on lime than the Trumper, so it's a bit like comparing apples and oranges. That notwithstanding, I really don't think the TOBS is in the Trumper class.

Thanks for that mini review! Is there any decent lime scent out there that will linger for a while, or does this just not happen? Old Spice lime maybe?

Also, to the OP: sorry for hijacking your thread:lol: I've only ever tried Trumper's lime, but I do have a West Indian lime tree growing in my back garden, and I can assure you that doing a "scratch and sniff" on a lime peel provides a pretty much identical scent to the Trumper's cologne—and it's lovely. In the US, these limes apparently go by the name of Key lime or Mexican lime, so you should be able to get a good idea of what to expect by smelling some fruit… (needless to say, YMMV:wink2:).

Lime scents don't last. This is especially true for aftershaves.

That said, I like Saint Charles Shave Extract of Limes aftershave splash (if you want some alcohol burn) or Extract of Limes aftershave milk (if you want stuff that's soothing and really good for your skin).

Neither will break the bank, and both are available in sample size. :w00t:

To be fair, there are those who do like TOBS lime, and consider it quite a bit better than just decent. I was offering my own take on it, so of course, YMMV, and all of that.

Having said that, the purer the citrus scent, the shorter its lifespan. Citrus oils have the highest volatility of all scent oils; any citrus scent that has staying power will either be well anchored with basenotes, or will be synthetic...or both. That's why Trumper, which is the purest lime I've yet come across, practically vanishes. If it lasted longer, it just wouldn't smell as awesome.

And having said that, I do think T&H West Indian Limes is a really nice lime cologne with a fair amount of staying power. It's nowhere near as pure as the Trumper, but I still find it fresh and zingy, and fairly uplifting.

I 2nd the TSD limes AS. The only true lime AS I have ever smelled and the value is great.

It's also available in cologne strength. (I have the trifecta: shave soap, as, and edt  If you like something mixed, their mojito is fantastic as well.)

Pinaud Eau de Portugal smells just like a gin and tonic, especially the lime parts. I cannot vouch for the staying power, but it is probably a very short-lived thing.

Yes, it is marketed as a hair tonic. Don't let that dissuade you.
