Lightbulb moment...Thats oak!

There is something in the taste of Bourbon that always turned me off. Could never really put my finger on it.

Earlier this evening, I was drinking an Oaked version of Stone's Arrogant Bastard ale. IMO, its a little heavy on the oak, but thats another thread. I've put a pretty big dent on the bottle of Laphroiag, so I decided to take a dram of the cheap Wild Turkey I bought to blend into a Smoked Porter I made a few months ago...

Having the flavor of oak so fresh in my mind made me finally realize what that flavor in Bourbon was...OAK! Phew, now I can drink Bourbon without that nagging "what is this flavor" in the back of my mind!
