I haven't had a bike in a long time

BUT.....

here are two I built in the late 60's early 70's

The blue one was a 1951 EL and the orange one was a 1957 FL

Both were suicide shifters (foot clutch hand shift at the gear box).
Notice there is only one lever on the right side of the handle bar for the front brake.

The 51 EL had mechanical brakes (no hydraulics for the rear, just levers and rods)

1955 FLH (project)

Way to rock it old school. These types of bikes interest me WAY more than choppers or cruisers ever could. And yeah, that bike is probably classified as a cruiser but it has a more sharply defined character to me. The generic big twin, over bulbous cruisers of the 90s and early 2000's left me sort of worn out from the look. I find it a bit humorous and ironic it took H-D about fifty years to realise they could sell a similar bike; the 48. And before anyone pounds me about proper knowledge of the models I freely admit to having never own a H-D but would like to. The 48 really appeals to me. Again, very nice old school bike.

Cheers, Todd

HD has made the Deluxe for quite a while and the shovel head motors look a little similar to the twin cams. Here's a stock Deluxe.

If I didn't want back into the sport bike world so bad, my 2nd bike would be a Deluxe and not a Triumph Speed Triple like I'm planning on.

Now that interests me! I knew someone would point out something I missed. Thanks.

Cheers, Todd

PS; I should add that while the Deluxe has a serious old school look I wish they made it in the Dyna series. I like the exposed shocks and coils of the Dyna and from what I gather they handle a good bit better as well. Listen to me, talking like some H-D expert.:001_rolle

2003 VTX 1300 - pretty standard except for jet kit, V&H Bigshots, grips - I've got a screen and backrest but the chillibabe made me take them off because she thought it looked like an old man's bike!

and rgoot01 I cant tell you how much I hate you for that bike throw some 100 spoke rims on it and that would be my ideal bike. I want a flat black street glide sooo bad once I pay the truck off it will be in the works.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I will get some seat time on that old Harley this summer. It is getting rebuilt right now, those shovel head pipes are coming off, and putting a new crank and pistons, everything is getting a once over. Might go to original panheads at some point but for now if the shovelheads are still good I will stick with that.

I am a sport bike rider but have always loved harleys, just never had the coin to buy myself a new one. So when this old pan showed up on the classifieds I snatched it up for $3500. I have put at least that much into it since and have yet to even hear it run.. soon.

Until she's done I have an older Yamaha YZF600R I boot around on, the old cat is still nimble enough to put a smile on my face!

Big Nickel, great story. Best of luck getting the old lad back on the road. I am sure it will be a blast. There is just something about those 40s/50s bikes that rock.

Cheers, Todd

Yeah I wanted a denim black street glide but had to settle for building a clone. Also, the next big thing on my list are some spokes, however I want 40's with nice whitewalls.

Big Nickel, I love the shovelheads and knuckleheads. There's just something about those head bolts on shovels and knucks that I think are just bad ***. I hope you get the seat time your hoping for.
