Leather scents

I am looking for a great leather scent, but have no idea where to look. I have tried T&H spanish leather and GFT Spanish leather. They are absolutely nothing alike, and of the 2, I much prefer T&H. It is spicier, and just smells better. Whether or not is has more of a leather note, I dont know, but I like the scent of it. I've read reviews of Knize 10, but to my knowledge, there is nowhere around here to sample it. I tried Dirty English, but after dry down, it was quite horrible. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, spicy, leathery scent?

There is a drugstore in Boston called Colonial Drug that carries Knize 10. They sent me a free 1ml sample.

I went on a quest for Knize 10 and found it's really hard to find.
Colonial Drug is a Boston drugstore that has a rep for carrying hard to find frags.

A word up: the Knize 10 that they would sell you comes with no cap and no box. I questioned this practice over in Basenotes where I found out about the place and the BNers beat the shyt out of me, giving me all assurances that this is a very reputable source. Knize 10 is such an odd product, there could be any number of reasons they sell it with no cap and box.

You must sample Knize 10. It is intense and probably the ultimate leather scent. I liked it, but opted not to buy a full bottle. If used in moderation, it's likely not the brutal monster some portray it to be.

Perfumed Court can also sell a sample decant from 1ml to 8ml.

Tauer's Lonestar Memories is another lauded leather scent on the pricey side. I haven't tried it, but some find it heavy on the birch tar which is what makes it leathery. It is considered a unisex scent which is a "no fly zone" for some. Read the reviews in Basenotes. Sounds like it has a little of the Knize 10 intensity.

Just took another look at their web site- which isn't very thorough, and it would appear they carry a lot of wet shaving stuff too.

Maybe Mama Bear's British Leather is a good choice for you?
You could probably add that as a scent to the winter or the summer balm.

I, too, have tried T&H and GFT spanish leather colognes. Of the two, I also prefer the T&H because it is spicier; and it has less leather smell to me than does the GFT version.

Knize Ten is a fantastic scent and Colonial Drug does indeed have it. However, if you call them first, they'll send you a sample. While I love it myself, there are lots of people who have just the opposite reaction to K10 and you might want to find out before shelling out for the whole bottle. When I called Colonial Drug to order, they were the ones who suggested trying it first.

There are some good threads in the archive about leathers and a great series of blogs here:

I think that Creed's Royal English Leather is also very nice. I had thought that GFT's Spanish Leather was revolting until I tried it again recently at Cambridge Chemists. I completely changed my mind and I like it now.

Of course, there's also the locally available English Leather. Somebody wrote that it smells like mean old men, but I think that's a bad rap. EL Musk is pretty good too.

If you are interested in some leather style scents here are some of my suggestions

A very nice leather scent in the leather only category is Demeter leather

It has a very nice leather smell like a nice pair of gloves or boots. It's only downside is that all Demeter scents are not long lasting scents.

A pretty good aftershave with a lot of leather in it's makeup is the Clubman Panaud Special Reserve:

For an aftershave it is pretty strong and a little bit is enough..

Of course there is English Leather which I think is pretty good.

and Stetson Rich Suede

Moving up a bit there is "In Leather Man" by Etienne Aigner

Nice leather scent stays close to the skin but has a reasonable longevity

Although not dominate leather, the original Jaguar by Jaguar has a very warm leather drydown.

Others scents that have leather include :

Bel Ami by Hermes
Black Suede by Avion
Aramis by Aramas

The Perfumed Court has samples of what they consider Mens leather scents you can purchase

Bob...

Special Reserve is another reasonably priced one. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. There's a weird pot liquor note to it that keeps it out of my rotation. It's like Leather Vegetal.

Yeah, like leather and whisky. I like it, but it's for special occasions. I have yet to determine what the aforementioned special occasions are, though.

Gents, I've tried several leather scents through out the years but I always go back to Trumpers Spanish Leather. The only other leather scent I liked was made by Aramis. I don't remember what it was called but I think it has been discontinued.

maybe I got a bad batch but the Knize 10 is really foul smelling to my nose, I mean really foul, almost like kerosene. The TF Tuscan Leather rocks, as does both the TH and GFT leather scents. Get samples so you know you'll wear it well before you put down a lot of cash.

I find Knize vile as well.

When I first applied Knize 10 I thought it was absolutely the worst cologne I'd ever smelled. I mean, it was really horrible. As it dried down it actually got quite a bit better, but it's not something I'd ever buy.

In general, I've found that leather scents aren't my thing. Of the ones I've tried, which is not that many, I think Dunhill 1934 is probably the best.
