lather in a mug - help

Ok today I created lather in a mug for the first time ever!

I used a sample of Proraso (thanks so much shave den!) my old spice mug and my VDH brush.

I soaked the brush in hot water while i shampooed and cleaned the face. i then dumped out the hot water, and squeezed the brush of excess water. i added a little water (i think too much) and added maybe a dime size or smaller of the cream.

I whipped it up like a mad man. It was very frothy. I was like woah! this is easy. i went to apply it and it was just watery.

What did i do wrong? do you need water with cream? help!

You probably used too much water or whipped the cream too much. Less whipping action of the brush and less water. Add water very slowly by flicking it into the mug with your wet fingers.

Don't do the highlighted above, also a cup is a handicap when making lather- a shallow bowl or your face is better.

Use a level teaspoon of cream to start-adjust from there.

I agree with Jim. When I quit trying to judge the correct amount of a blob and started doing the dip 'n twist, I got dramatically better results. I also started with a cup, but when I switched to a wide (5" or so) bowl, things improved. Its my nature to be practical, but being stingy with cream is frustrating. You can always add drops of water if needed.
