Lapping film for bevel setting?

Here is a vendor, offering lapping film and finishing film.

Finishing film

from the description:
What is the difference between Alox finishing film and Alox lapping film?

In Alox finishing film the grit is spread on the bonding agent and then electrostatically righted so that the sharp points of the grit show through the surface. This results in a more aggressive abrasive.

In Alox lapping film the grit is embedded in the bonding agent resulting in a distinctly less aggressive action. This material is therefore suited for polishing.

Some of us use lapping film for bevel set. I never tried that. Just thinking wheter there are more approriate abrasives available, like sanding paper or or other films.

Which Micron Lapping Film For Bevel Setting?

It is better to use non PSA films. I don't think that the ones on your links are non-Psa type. Adesive lapping films are a problem. Maybe someone can confirm or not my statement.

Regarding bevel setting, I am failing with sandpaper but I am a total novice on honing. However those who are experts, yes they can hone on sandpaper.

Yea sounds like mega marketing hooey, (In Alox finishing film the grit is spread on the bonding agent and then electrostatically righted so that the sharp points of the grit show through the surface. This results in a more aggressive abrasive.) Electrostatically righted the sharp points. Really?

You don’t need PSA film, unglued film will stick to a flat surface with just water. I use glass 12X3 inch tiles, ($4 from big box store) sanded flat on a sheet of 220 sandpaper. Glass is soft, sands easily and will leave a flat matt finish that holds film very well.

Film does not last long, it is much easier to bevel set with a 1k stone, then switch to film to finish. Your film will last much longer, you can buy a 1k King stone for $15-20 or couple bucks used.

I buy film from Thor Labs in 9X11” sheets from 3M and get 4 pieces from a sheet, cut with a guillotine paper cutter. Pretty much I only use 1um film, but have several grits.
