Ladd's Imperial (Vintage Tallow) Shaving Bowl

Hello everyone,

Please take a look at this recent find:

I am curious if anyone has any experience with it. I haven't tried it yet. Thanks for any thoughts!

By the way, the company looks to be pretty obscure. I wonder if Hamilton is the actual manufacturer or if this was a rebrand of another domestic (or perhaps imported) product.

I think this is probably older than suspected. The holes in the bottom of the bowl and lid suggest turning on a somewhat standardised lathe and not a big production shop. Taking a completely uneducated guess I think the labeling suggests late 40s through the late 50's.

Cheers, Todd

Thanks for the replies, Todd and Ian. I was also estimating 1940s-1960s. There's not much scent to it, but there is definitely something going on. The soap itself looks pretty similar to some Yardley I've seen of that era.

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I am certainly brave enough to give it a go, but there's something intimidating about digging into a consumable NOS product that old. Something like vintage wine or Scotch. It's the Cask Strength 45 Year Old Single of my soap arsenal!
