La Toja Scent

I just got a La Toja stick in a trade and am excited to try it. The scent seemed reminiscent of something from my early years of wetshaving. Then I realized that it was like a much stronger version of Van Der Hagen glycerin, which is a super-light clone of Grey Flannel.

Anybody else notice this?

Not sure how to accurately describe the scent, but I wouldn't hesitate to describe it as one of the best soaps at any price point in existence. I'm sure people will scoff at that, but to me its right up there with MdC, Calani, etc.

The scents are not similar for me. La Toja smells nice and performs well. I get the resemblance between Grey Flannel and the VdH scent, and I dislike both of those.

I tried La Toja shave stick for the first time this weekend. I really enjoyed the smell and the shave was pretty impressive...

I love the La Toja Stick, and creams. I catch a light hint of mineral salt and the fragrance to me is just a nice fresh clean scent.

Well, David, I agree and caught this when I first tried La Toja three or four years ago. It's not nearly as clear a match as VdH, but there's some overlap. The in-your-face moss of Grey Flannel is absent, so you get a gentle violet leaf ionone and some barbershop soap notes (possibly from galbanum). I find Grey Flannel a great fragrance but nearly unwearable for me personally, whereas La Toja is very light, clean, and not the least bit oppressive.

I used a La Toja stick for the first time this morning. The stick itself has a light salty fragrance, but I didn't notice any fragrance in the lather. That's fine by me. More important, it lathers easily and quickly and lubricates as well as any soap or cream I've tried. The result was an efficient, thorough and comfortable shave--even though it was late in the blade's life cycle. What more can you ask?

Dave, I don't know the other soaps you mentioned in your post but to me La Toja stick has a "salty", fresh, clean, light and wonderful scent. In terms of performance it's a super top quality stick and if I should have only one soap, La Toja would be a serious contender.

I bought several LT sticks a while back and ground one up to form a puck. Love using it. But I'm on vacation now (in Italy looking for interesting products to try) and decided to take a LT stick with me. My experience with sticks has been OK, but nothing that I found particularly great. But several shaves in a row with the LT stick and I'm beginning to like it. I get my face nice and wet, then run the stick under the water for a few seconds. With that prep a nice layer of soap goes on easily and lathers up just as well as when I load it from the puck. Nice - although if I find some SMN the stick might go back into my luggage.

By the way I saw Proraso Green in a tub for under 2 Euros in a supermarket. Oh, I did locate at least one source so far for my favorite blades - the Gillette platinums in the all white box with blue lettering. They're outraeously expensive, but still Ill bring a few packs homes with me.

You are not alone! I'm just got Grey Flannel. I feel some similar "salty" notes with La Toja stick scent.

I get a clean powdery smell. Regardless, La Toja is awesome !

Me too, I also get a hint of wintery spice notes in that powdery scent. And I used it for the first time today to find it makes love thick lather and left my face nice and soft despite my blade being sub par!

Overall a great soap, nice little tube it comes in too. Well worth the £3.
