So I've had this bottle of Krampert's Bay Rum kicking around my bathroom for several months now, without being all that impressed with it. Really liked the smell, could tell that it was quality stuff, but I couldn't get it to agree with my face.
Backing up, I have skin, particularly on my neck, that is a bit troublesome to take care of post-shave. Lots of irritation at times, some ingrown issues, some acne issues. Generally, it's never too bad, but I sort end up with "flare-ups" that really need to be nipped in the bud if I notice something starting there, as once fully formed, it's a nightmare to deal with - everything suddenly tends to spread out across my neck, and it's just not all that cool to deal with.
I've settled into a routine that includes hitting my face with Captain's Choice Lime, then following up with a small amount of Wileda AS Balm to my problem areas. It's been great. I also occasionally use the RazoRock Lime Problem Solver AS splash, generally only if I'm having a "breakout". The Krampert's has been sitting, because it seemed like everytime I used it, my skin would get irritated the next day, or occasionally the day of, whether or not I used it in conjunction with other products. Also, I would find it a bit sticky. I figured that was probably a sign of "over moisturization" of my face, given what I knew about the product (according to the maker, it's an excellent moisterizer/healer, etc.).
We're moving into winter, and again, I'm really wanting to like the Krampert's. This week, my face and skin started off the week in excellent shape, and I figured that if I'm going to keep this stuff around, I need to find out once and for all if it really is irritating my skin, or if it's just coincidence, or what. Again, guessing that there is a possible over-moisterization issue, I figure let's eliminate everything but the Krampert's from the equation, given that at this point, my neck area is basically a clean slate.
So I shaved all this week with blades I know and love, soap I know and love, following up only with Krampert's Bay Rum.
Wow. It works as advertised. Absolutely. I am so glad I gave this another shot...I think it's likely a by-product of the weather getting colder, and my skin wanting a bit of extra moisture, but it is definitely doing it's job now, and there is no stickiness that I experienced in summer. Plus, the Bay Rum is a brilliant winter scent.
Long story I realize, but I've now got another piece of the shaving puzzle I can switch up to during these next few months at least. Happy I gave it a second look before PIF-ing it out of my life.
