Kent TR series review

I'm still relatively new to all of this and I have limited experience in regards to, well, anything, but I'll try to write up a review as decent as I can.

I recently bought the Kent TR-2. A travel brush. There's also the TR, TR-1 and TR-3, which differ in color/handle material. The TR is made out of white resin, and the TR-1, TR-2 and TR-3 are made out of aluminum with different colors (white, gold and black). I don't get why anyone would want to get the resin one besides looks, and I prefer the modern look of the aluminum ones anyway. Besides, you can drop this thing and the worst thing that'll happen is a little dent. The resin one would shatter.

I got the black one. It cost me around 55 bucks off eBay.

It's easy to use. Just screw off the little ring on top of the handle, take out the brush head, screw the bottom of the brush head on the ring, screw the ring back on the handle. Boom, you got yourself a shaving brush. In its case, the top of the brush is exposed to the air and in the bottom of the holder is a little hole. This is to help it dry better, I suppose.

It is really small when it's in its housing. It's about the size of a cigarette lighter, but thicker. The build quality is excellent. The fit and finish scream "high quality". It really is a beautiful product.

On the handle, it says "Pure Badger". It isn't as soft and luxurious as my Kent BK4, which has "Pure Silvertip Badger" written on it, but I still like it.

I face-lathered with the brush this morning with some Old Spice cream. The bristles were notably harder and tougher than on the BK4, but this wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It didn't feel like I was rubbing sandpaper on my face or anything like that. It was rather a nice, decent scrubbing. It allowed me to build a really nice lather that prepared my face for a good shave. The brush was never too small or uncomfortable. I really liked the overall experience.

The brush is smaller than my BK4, but this didn't cause me any problems. I don't know about the guys here that are used to those mammoth brushes like the BK-12, but I can't imagine anyone not being able to make this thing work.

I haven't tried to bowl-lather with it yet, so I cannot comment on that. Then again, it's a travel brush, which focuses on being small. I'm not taking a bowl and all my other luxury shaving shenanigans with me when I'm traveling; that kinda defies the whole point of choosing small items such as this brush over bigger items that offer more comfort/luxury.

It makes sense being a good face-lathering brush, and it it really is just that. I'm looking forward to taking it with me on my future trips.

Excellent, beautiful item that gets the job done. Highly recommended!

p.s. thanks Wingnut, for the initial advice. :thumbup1:

Bluseman, try giving your brush a treatment with some hair conditioner. I did that with mine and it made a world of difference--same amount of backbone, but now there's much less "scritchiness" to the tips. :thumbup1:

Do I use the conditioner in the same way as my own hair? Put it in, wash it out after a few minutes?

It does work the conditioner tip. Tried it on my New Forest Tubby two and it's super soft now. I do re-apply though.
