KAI Captain Razor

I have been using a Feather AC SS folding razor and have an opportunity to purchase a KAI Captain Standard (black handle folding) razor at a really good price. I am trying to decide whether or not it makes sense to buy it, and would appreciate opinions on this razor and how it compares to the Feather. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Thougght #1...If you are wanting another razor similar to the one you have now..and DONT wanna get into real straight razors..then try other things which are similar..
Thought #2...But if you wanna get into straight razors at least to have a few of your own and send em out to be honed properly....strops n stones at a later date..what you are using now is a great way to learn to use a real straight razor
Thought #3...If what you are using now works...with no desire for anything more..stick with watcha got!

I have thought about "real" staights and have been tempted but, at the end of the day, the stropping, honing, and maintenance is a deal breaker for me. I also DE shave and own several razors. They all work for me and, even though there may be some redundancy, each has its own character and that adds to the shaving experience. So, I don't have a problem owning two similar razors, but would like to get a comparison of the KAI vs. the Feather.

I'd go for the Kai. I have all the Feathers, and all are very nice, but the Kai is my go to. The head is thinner and easier to use.

And don't fall for the hype about using a "real" straight. The Kai, and any of the Feathers are indeed real straights. You just don't have to worry about any upkeep. Just change the blade when its time. Also keep in mind that there is no "real" straight that can match the sharpness of a Feather or Kai blade. The shave technique with the disposables is the same as with the regular. Once you get their use down the shaves will be some of the best you can give yourself. :thumbup1:

Paul, thanks for your input. That's the kind of information I was seeking comparing the two razors. As for whether or not the Feather and KAI are real straights, I could not agree with you more, that is why I put the quotation marks around the word real. I do understand the lure of "real" (standard) straights, but I prefer the closer shaves and maintenance-free results I get with the Feather.

I have several disposable blade straight, among them, i have the Feather RG, and DX, in the other hand i also have some Kai´s Being my favorite the Captain Excelia Stainles Steel and all i can say it that all of the above are great razors but the Captain Excelia its a supreme Top Noch razor and i would also sugest you get some Kai Pink Mild Blades they are also great performers.
