What's new

Just pulled the trigger on some Personna Labs

I've been using Shark SS blades for a few months as I was starting DE shaving. I didn't want to try new blades until I was sure I had the technique down. I believe I have the technique down, but these Shark blades seem a bit disappointing to me. They work fine, but I can't get a BBS shave in 3 passes. I always have to buff a bit at my sideburns and under my chin. Everything else turns out great. Of course I don't blame the blades only; I have a Murker 180 razor that I think contributes to a less aggressive shave.

Anyways, I can't wait to try these out. And for $13 per 100 blades on Ebay, they're cheaper than what I paid for the sharks.

The Labs are really good blades. I just got some more myself and will be comparing them with my Med Preps which are really fine blades.
The Sharks didn't work for me either. The Chromes were better than the SS, but neither was good for more than 2 shaves and not impressive. Just a personal preference.
If you want a really good inexpensive blade, try Bluebirds. I bought a hundred of them and really like them. They aren't as smooth as some, but really sharp and surprisingly durable. 15-16 cents a blade. I don't think they're quite as good as Labs, though, and if you're buying them for 13 cents each that'll be hard to beat in terms of bang for the buck. Personna Red packs are getting inexpensive too, and that's a really smooth blade, a lot of people's favorite.

The shark chromes were fine for me when I had them. I always have the med preps and they do well for me. I think you will be very pleased with those labs. You should get 3-4 great shaves from them.

I think the biggest issue I had with the sharks is that I still don't have much of a full beard at all (slowly getting darker instead of peachy), so the blades do not tug or pull on most of my face. I kept a blade in the same razor for three weeks without any discomfort. I only was not getting a good shave without a good amount of buffing. Maybe that's a good thing, but I am hoping that the (cheaper than sharks) labs will be noticeably better.
