Jos. A Bank 50% Off Sale

Awesome. Sales are the best times for shopping there. I need some socks and shoes so I may head there tonight.

Even at 50% off, I find the clothing at Joseph A. Banks to be very pricey.

Let me put it this way, they almost had to call 911 today when I saw the price of a casual shirt was $100 :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

It is pricey but their shirts dress shirts are the only ones I wear and love them. The suits are hit and miss. The Jos. A Bank suit is one amazing cut and worth the price.

There are two Jos. A. Banks stores within 10 miles or so. Ads for 50% off sales are fairly regular. I've often wondered if 50% should be the retail price.

What do you deem 'better' when deciding the quality of men's clolthing? The fabric, construction/sewing, how it holds up for the day. Consistancy within sizing.

For you, what makes the $100 shirt the best choice for you over the $25 or $50.00 shirt. I'm curious.

Since I wear a suit everyday (except for Friday's), travel about 15 days a month, sometimes sit on international and cross country sitting for hours, I notice right away what makes the cut or not.

Egyptian cotton shirts are in. No wrinkle, light to wear and not just weight but coolness and ability to breathe and avoid sweat marks. There is not even wrinkles at the waist lines from sitting and being tucked in. Also I have a massive neck, I may be thin but I wear a 18 neck and shirts are hard to find in 32 or 33 with a 18 neck. So usually the premium shirts are the only ones who make them. With a good shirt you will get NO irritation around the collar from wear a tie all day. I feel no difference if I unbutton or loosen my tie, it's just that comfortable. I can spot a superior shirt just by the way it lays on the person.

Suits, IMO are wear you do not skimp if you wear them daily. I like Jack Victor suits. The Jos. A Bank suit line is superb. It's all about the stitching and lines. These suits are higher cut in the arms and being big necked comes with broad shoulders. And as I pointed out earlier, traveling separates a quality product. If you have to take your coat off while sitting, it's not a top notch suit IMO. Lining in the suit is smooth and keeps you from feeling that there is a jacket on you.

I don't know how many of you do this but I wear my pants and suits down until the fabric just wears out. I beat my suits to death.

If I didn't wear a suit everyday and travel as much, I wouldn't spend $1000 for a suit or a $100 a shirt.

Ties, same thing, material. How the knot ties and how it lays is what makes the suit.

Just as a chef doesn't use infomercial cutlery and pots and pans I don't skimp on my work wear. Also it's a feeling a good suit gives you, not to be vain but when you you feel that you look good and clean, it translates through your daily activities. But see me on the weekends; flannels, hunting boots, wranglers.....if my wife lets me out that way:w00t:

The NY Atty General's office was once toying with the notion of bringing charges against Jos. A Bank a few years ago for false advertising, because they run so many sales. At the time I recall them saying they'd gathered evidence against them of 20+ half-off sales in a year's time.

My wife and I always laugh when we hear the breathless radio announcer's claims and the emphatic music, all trumping what must be considered by their seasoned staff to be more of the real price than the 'other' price. The best part's when the announcer says the name of the sale. Hilarious.

Sales notwithstanding, they make a quality product.

One can argue the this comparison someone who buys canned goo versus a triple milled tallow based soap. We don't say anything when someone buys a $65 soap. So I guess some people are the same with clothing, watches, knifes, etc.

Sounds like another version of BBS to me.

As a side note, I think NY was also doing this to Sleepy's with their frequent sales too.

They have some really nice off-the-rack offerings, and, like most stores, some not so nice stuff. Overall, they offer a good selection at a great price (assuming you take advantage of the ongoing sales).

I was in Neiman Marcus yesterday and saw, among other items, sport shirts for $495 and a blazer for $2,245. In comparison, Jos is sorta low-end :001_smile

I stopped by a JOB store today - I was impressed. It seems like a lot of suit for the money. Now I need to decide if the cut is for me or not.

Does anyone know how they compare against Brooks Brothers? They seem to be almost comparable in price.

I think the cuts will depend on the body of the wearer. Check the lining and the stitch around the arms. You shouldn't see any and it should be silky smooth. The lining is going to give you the room to be able to wear the coat for hours.

Check out their Jos Banks suits. They are very old school cuts with European sense. Double vents, the colors, are excellent.

I've never tried a Brooks Brothers suit before. Quite honestly out of 8 full suits 1, is not a Jos A Bank. Sports coats, I have a few different makers. So I can't really say which is the best. But shirts, I've tried many and have a closet full and that I can say, JAB travelers and Signatures are superb.

My husband wore a suit every day to work. I did the starching and ironing of the dress shirts so they'd be done right. (My name is Sue and I used to have a problem with starching and ironing everything cotton :)

The difference in a quality shirt is readily apparent.

I'm a lawyer, and all I wear is Joseph A. Bank suits. I pay about $200 a piece for them, and have NEVER paid full price. There are better than $200 suits, but they are not $750 suits (or whatever their retail price is).

There quality is great, but it's not Brooks Brothers. But I think a BB suit starts at about $600 or more.

The signature gold I picked out was 547$ at half off. I get the sale gimmick thing. The same BB sale was 1500 for 2 suits. I need two right now, so that was the deal I was eyeballing.

I suspect the BB may be higher quality, but the JOB stuff is much better than I imagined.

BTW, I have not purchased a signature gold, but I'm guessing that it is a lot of suit for the money. I live in very rural area, so I don't expensive suits. I'm one of the few people who own more than one suit. lol

But I used to have an expensive Brooks Brothers suit... it was nice.

I used to buy Jos suits in the 90's when I traveled 50% of the time on business. I liked them back then because they were cheap and traveled well.
