Joing the Darkside

I did my first shave with a straight razor this evening. All in all things went very well especially above the jawline. I did cut myself twice but not too bad. With my DE, I only used one hand so using my non-dominate hand with a straight razor was rather awkward. I definintly need to concentrate while shaving my neck area. I am already looking forward to tomorrow's shave. :001_smile

Congrats, keep at it, and keep using both hands, it feels pretty natural in a very surprisingly short time.

Oh, by the way - it's not the darkside, it's the "enlightened".

I think most people new to straights start using just one hand. They'll stay with just the one until they realize that its easier to get at some of the "hard to reach" spots by using the other hand. I know I sure did.

Just take it easy and work into using the other hand by shaving some of the easier to reach spots with your non dominate hand. Pretty soon things will fall into place. :thumbup1:

I know, right?
It gets addictive fairly quickly

Whew, when you said darkside, I thought you meant the dreaded Electric Razor!!!

As someone earlier mentioned, you have actually elevated to be "enlightened in the force!"

I did my second shave with a straight razor. Not sure how I feel about it. On the plus side, shaving above the jaw improved and overall, there is much less irritation. On the negative side, I sustained 4 cuts on my neck including one on my adam's apple that required a band-aid. :crying:
Looking back, I went too fast and was careless while shaving my neck area. Tomorrow night's goal: slow down. I need to remind myself that this is not a race.

Keep at it, it will get better. Take your time, no pressure, watch your angle. I was scared out of my mind last year when I did it the first time. Now I have all these safety razors I rarely use!

What a difference patience makes. Things went so much better today. No cuts, only minor irritation. I was able to do WTG and XTG passes on my checks and 2 WTG passes on my neck. It took 45 minutes, but it was worth it. I am beginning to learn how to tilt my head and stretch the skin to flatten out my neck area . One thing I do have to watch is that my natural inclination is to turn the blade horizontal if I lose concentration. :scared:
If I can get that under control, things are lookin' good.
