Jjust curious about the lather catcher function

Why is lather catcher named so, do it make it easier to shave by reducing the rinsing of the lather? And what model is the best one, i see different variations on ebay.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that's the reason. I can do an entire pass (cheeks, neck, chin and moustache) without having to rinse the blade/razor. It really is a nice feature. :thumbup1:

So far I am prefering the Star Kampfe lather catchers, I just sold one but only because I got another one in better condition. Both of the Star lather catchers I have owned could take regular SE blades.

I tried an Ever-Ready lather catcher and found it way too light, felt like I was shaving with toothpick

If I ever come across a Gem lather catcher I will give it a try as well.

Resistance is futile - pick one up if you get the chance.

hey alex, great post; this is the exact question i had been wondering about.
i had always thought the reason to rinse the razor regularly was to keep the blade and the blade gap clean, unclogged, heated and wet for more effective cutting.
is the knowledgeable consensus saying the primary reason to rinse mid-shave is so the lather won't drip down your hand? and the ability to decrease the frequency of this is the primary inspiration behind the lather catcher design? furthermore, do any of my questions make any sense whatsoever? if so, please explain them to me. :aureola:
btw, not arguing, just asking...thnx v much
