I like Jermyn Street very much. I think TOBS describes it as a formulation for sensitve skin which may be different than the rest of their line. I find that their Avocado performs much like Jermyn Street. It has avocado oil in its formulation.
As said, it also cost 15% more than the others TOBS.
It's for sensitive skin and contains extra healing ingredients and I get a better thicker lather cushion from it, that - as mentioned - I also seem to get from Avocado.
I do enjoy Mr. Taylor, but will not use it a lot for the upcoming winter, because it seems to protect me less during my shave than other creams do - but the scent is very nice, so I often blend it with the very mild scented O Melhor or TF&H Ultimate Comfort, and get lovely shaves with a very nice shave as a result.
TOBS Sandalwood I just bought to test it, as it was on sale - but will not re-purchase this once I finish the pot.
I tried a TOBS sampler with SandalWood, Jermyn Street, Avocado, Lavender, Lemon Lime, and I found all to pretty much have the same performance EXCEPT for the Avocado. The Avocado was much smoother - the razor glides easier. I also tried JM FRASER'S (Original), Proraso Green, and Mentolated HeadSlick, but so far nothing beats the TOBS Avocado in terms of "performance".
Now, in terms of fragrance, the Lavender, Jermyn Street, were nice to both my wife and I. I also felt the Proraso and HeadSlick were fairly benign - nothing too strong. Avocado was not my best smell (not bad either, as it is not too strong), but my wife liked it (go figure!). I also liked the Lemon and the JM Fraser's, but my wife didn't like them. We both found Sandalwood too strong.
So I ordered a whole tub of the Avocado and it is what I use every single day
+1 on this, I absolutely love the Jermyn st. scent, and it just happens to be the one that lathers better, so it all worked out for me! (except the slightly higher price.... LOL)
With Salter creams, I found the consistency of the cream and performance to be very similar no matter the scent. Not so with Taylor creams and that's why I stopped buying them. Even the consistency of Taylor creams with the same scent changed from tub to tub. The T&H samples I'm currently using also all seem to perform the same.
I'd say it's slight variations in the ingredients making the difference TOBS sandalwood is my favorite fragrance, but performance wise coconut has the edge with extra thickness and slickness in the lather, not to mention the feel of my skin adterwards, which I put down to the presence of coconut oil
