Jade East anyone?

I see an online vendor offers Jade East aftershave. Is it as good as I remember or has it too gone the way of so many watered down classics?

When I was a kid, my elementary school had bingo every Saturday night. Some smart guy took the school phone, laid the receiver on the table and filled it up with Jade East. Then he sent a note to the guy running bingo that he had a call. Moments later, that bingo chief burst back into the school cafeteria, the side of his head and his shoulder soaking wet, shouting "Who the %$&^% put Jade East in the &$*#&!! phone?" I can never think of Jade East without remembering that.

I haven't smelled it in a while, but I remember it being in the same neighborhood as Brut. Maybe ramped up a little more. It sells for $12 or $13 at K-Mart, so why not?

I've read the reviews on Amazon on the "Jade East" being offered and saw some mixed reviews, but still may try some one day. I loved the stuff along with British Sterling and English Leather when I was younger.

From what ive read the British Sterling is still as it was. I remember the commercial. "British Sterling, so fine a gift its sold in jewelry stores". :)

The last bottle of British Sterling I had, which was quite a while ago. seemed not up to what I had remembered wearing as late as graduate school. And I had this most recent bottle long before I got into this stuff enough to know about reformulations, etc.! I just knew it did not seem to smell the same or as good as what I used to wear. For all I know, BS has reformulated back!

Have not had any recent Jade East and am not sure I could accurately remember it from the 1960s! Decent jasmine, though, as I recall!

The BS still smells the same as I remember, just a bit tamer/weaker in the longevity department, used this last week as one of my Work Frags. This and Z-14 were my Dad's favorites, one of the reasons I keep them, the other is they just smell good (IMO).

British Sterling is NOT the same as it used to be, its a way weaker and mostly useless scent now. The modern Jade East stinks in comparison to the original and lasts less than an hour thank goodness.
English Leather as it is today is a weak and less than perfect copy of the original scent from the past.

And Old Spice, Skin Bracer, Aqua velva, Brut, and any others still being sold today are nowhere near as good as they were in the 1970's and 1980's. Brut used to last all day easily, in fact you had to use it sparingly lest you overpower a room with your scent.
British Stirling was the same way and it changed scent over the course of the day and became a very nice scent by the afternoon that often bore little resemblance to the early morning scent.

Old Spice in the 1970's and 1980's would take over a whole gymnasium if you applied it in more than a few drops at a time. And it would hardly wash off in the shower. The versions of these scents being sold today could be poured on your whole body and not even come close to the vintage scents in staying power.

I shop and use mostly vintage scents now, not because they are cheap, but because they are that much better is smell and lasting power than the stuff sold today.

Just my two cents, on an old thread that is worth talking about some more today.

FWIW... My LOTH thinks that Pinaud clubman smells like Jade East...some days I agree with that, others not so much
