Ivory Scale Repair?

Gentlemen,
I recently purchased a Mappin and Webb Celebrated razor with Ivory scales at a local flea market for $14.00.( Red hot wire touched to the scales in an already damaged area did not produce any melting thus I assume after research it is ivory)

It appears to be one of a seven day set, as the top of the blade is etched "Monday". The blade appears to be in great condition with the exception of some corrosion on the jibs located inside the scales by the pivot pin.
The 1st problem is that one of the ivory scales has a small pie shaped section of the ivory scale missing , with the point of the missing piece starting at the wedge pin and the wider missing section extending to the end of the razor. I know a picture would help but my camera is currently missing in action

Anyway my question : Is there any way to repair the ivory scale?

2nd problem: the scales are pinned with no washers

I would Appreaciate any suggestions

I'd say that you should either keep it up on a shelf to stare at, or perhaps consider either (by yourself or by hiring someone else) de pin them and have a liner made, and attach the ivory to the liner.

I don't think you can do much.

Taking the pins out is also difficult and you might break the ivory or crack it during the process.

I just put up a post with pictures (same Section as this post) about a Palmera razor.
I made the new scales using a material called micarta which is very strong and feels like ivory. It's more practical and it would make a great replacement for the scales on your razor. It's a quality finish and feel every bit as good as ivory but stronger.

Ofcourse you can get lots of lovely woods etc, but I think the micarta is closest to what you have. Maybe if you ask a knife restorer, they may know were you can buy a look a like material with the same ivory markings.

No washer pins are a PITA.
Especially on hard/brittle scales.
I am going to be doing a scale replacement for Leighton, he has one with a cracked scale, and I have the same side scale in a nearly identical ivory size and shape.
I would post a WTB ad for that specific side of the razor, you may get lucky.

As for Micarta, I agree, feels just like ivory, but lacks the grain/detail of it.
And, the stuff is nearly indestructible.

Is it structurally sound? If not you could use a blob of polymer and sand it down afterwards, won't look perfect but will keep it functional.

Or you can replace the scales, or you can sell me the blade and I'll use it with a perfect pair of scales that I have which belonged to a broken razor like it (no, you can't have these scales) :)
