What's new

I've made myself a promise.

That before I buy any more soaps or creams, I've got to use at least one up.

There haven't been too many soaps or creams that haven't agreed with me to the point of selling them, just two actually. Because of this, I've got seven different ones that I've used a good many times but have at least 80% left. I've been looking at all sorts of products, even have filled my cart up a few times at different sites but just can't buy any more until I've actually finished one. It may be difficult, but I'm going to use just one soap until it's finished. I'm probably looking at a good four months to get this done :001_unsur but the light at the end of the tunnel is going to be a few new products. It's time to put something in the graveyard!

I signed up for the 2013 Purchase Sabbatical for the the same reason. I'm comfortable with around 5-7 soaps/creams on my shelf, but after receiving 5 as gifts in the last month, I'm up to 12 and it's making me twitch a little bit. It's both a blessing and a curse that these things refuse to die.

Best of luck in your quest!

It's easy to go too hard too early and in your excitement buy on a whim. Kudos to you for making the call to use up your stock prior to buying more. However, have you considered trading on the BST? You could move some gear and get some good stuff in return...

Good luck with your promise.
I'm going through the same thing. 11 months in and I am yet to finish a cream or soap. There is light at the end of the tunnel though. A travel sized Nancy Boy Signature should be finished off in the next couple of weeks and a tube of Pens BB will hopefully be gone by the time of my DE anniversary.

It took me 9 months to get through my first complete soap - Razorock Classic. Nearly finished one stick of Arko, but likely 3 more months in the rotation.
Check out the 3017 thread - dedicated to people using one soap at a time....

Tell me about it!

I use the BST every once in a while but I enjoy the stuff I have and don't want to get rid of it so it's time to settle down and use just one.

Now that's a little extreme for me... I'm thinking this is going to be semi-annual at best!

I feel the same way! I have an infatuation with watching the levels of my aftershaves slowly go down, as well as watching soaps VERY slowly deteriorate. I am determined to finish one!

My latest order from Italianbarber is my last for a while. I have well over a dozen soaps and creams to satisfy my whims. There are MANY more I'd like to try, but I can wait. I'll be finishing one or more before next purchase too.

I have too much, I will admit. Of everything. Except straights, of which I have none.... but that's beside the point. For me wetshaving is my hobby. Some guys spend thousands on ATV vehicles, boats, guns, cars, motorcycles.... and none of that really is necessary. They do it for fun and at whatever cost they can get away with. I'm a little the same way when it comes to shaving stuff except on a much smaller scale. If I still get a little enjoyment out of buying a tub of shave cream when I've got enough at home to last me two lifetimes, then I'm going to do it. I can always sell off stuff later if I have to.

That said, there is a pleasure in using stuff up. Many times, if I have a product I don't particularly like, I'll make an extra effort to get it used up. I don't like to waste stuff. I eat leftovers and finish the food on my kid's plates that they don't eat when they get full. Right now, I know that I have too much because I have started buying soaps instead of creams because I know it will keep longer and I also have soaps and creams laying around that I have yet to try even once. At any rate, I admire your determination to finish. Good luck!

Ben

HAHA! I thought I was the only one who did that! :applause:

I'm like a blind man that can now see. I just started getting into this and I can't stop until I've tried a ton. What really just saved me was a member or two let me know who on B&B sells samples of fragrances and soaps. I spend a little over $30 on 12 different products.

I remember the day I discovered beer. I used to be a whisky guy but when I was introduced to the massive variety of beers, I couldn't find 5 I liked and settle. I suppose creams, soaps, blades and fragrances is the same way.

Well, I already blew my vow but for IMO a good reason!

My wife needed to place an order on Soap.com. Mind you I already had four bottles of Kiss My Face and a tube of Cremo in the cart but was waiting until I finished my puck of VDH to place it with the 40% off coupon I had in the mail. So not to waste the coupon, I ordered my cream but am not using any of it until I use this stuff up!

My blade buying isn't slowing down though. Just ordered 800 Rapira Super Stainless.

That before I buy any more soaps or creams, I've got to use at least one up.

That's what I told myself as well...except I went further and force the issue. Bought one of those boxes of Arko sticks (12? 15 in a box?) and said I wouldn't buy any new soaps until the box is used up. yeah....I really did. I think I gave a stick away (good excuse to hurry things up, of course!), but I've got plenty to go! But really, if it works, do you really need more than one soap? I've got 4-5 brushes to choose from, a dozen+ straights that are ready to use, several hones, and 2 scuttles to choose from...plenty of variety to keep things going. With those sticks, the hones, brushes, and the straights, I'll likely never need to buy any more shaving stuff ever again.

Wow, no way I could do that. I love Arko but that's like four years of shaves for me. I like mixing it up by using a different soap or cream every or every other shave so it's nice to have a good variety.

Also, I just ordered 6 tubes of Co. Bigelow tonight since somebody posted the buy 2 get 1 free plus a $10 off and free shipping which I've been waiting for. Still only using my VDH but my stash is still growing. Whoops!

I have 7 soaps and rotate the soap I use daily. I really like a different aroma when I shave. It kind of breaks up the monotony.
