What's new

It's Friday night who is sippin some Scotch?

I'm such a lurker her and I'm learning so much from the good discussions that I find it hard to contribute to the shaving discussions without sounding like a dweeb so.... I figured this is some meager form of contribution!

Anyway, Friday night and your sitting with your favorite single malt... I'd be curious to hear what your sippin on. Me, well I'm currently enjoying the heck out of a Laphroaig 10 year cask strength. I'm in ND and it is in the upper 20's tonight and the peat smoke of this Laphroaig just floods me with warm summer nights by the campfire. Ahh.. the good life!

I'd love to hear what your enjoying!

Right now I'm having after dinner coffee. I'm debating between a McCallen 12 yo scotch, a Boulevard Bully Porter, or trying my hand at making an old fashioned (never tried one before).

The old fashioned sounds really good. I have not experience one of those either but I'm pretty sure I will soon! Great suggestion. Would you make that with your single malt or with a bourbon? Looks like bourbon is the tradition (I cheated and used the WIKI HERE). The bully porter is nice as well. I'm a homebrewer as well so I certainly have a soft spot for a good brew! I sampled the Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout last night and was pleasantly surprised. Thanks for posting.

I'd use bourbon I think. I have some around here that doesn't get used so that might be just the ticket.

I've had the oatmeal stout as well, and really enjoyed it. Now that you've got me thinking about it, I might have to pick some up this weekend.

I usually have a Canadian Club 12yo...

I will need to go back to my usual Cognac Courvoisier VSOP next time...

I'm in eastern MT and came through ND last weekend. Went all the way to Fargo.

Unfortunately, where I live now alcohol is illegal. I'm drinking tea. :wink2:

Hi Ryan, another North Dakotan !!!!! Whooooo Hooooo not sipping on anything stronger than pepsi tonight but saw you were from around here and had to say HI !!!! What part of ND are you from?

sorry for the mini-hijack.

Welcome all and glad to hear you are all enjoying your evening... scotch or not. Adam, I didn't realize there were 'dry' counties in MT anymore!

Luc, I'm guessing it isn't evening for you so if nothing else you can day dream about that 12 year for later. ;)

Krissy, good to hear from a fellow ND resident. I'm in Dickinson. Whereabout are you? Are you involved in the pride of ND stuff? I will certainly have to catch up with you somewhere and try out your soaps! Your site link appears to be out of commission right now...

Good Evening!, Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I'm north of Devils Lake actually in Cando. I'm not involved in the pride of ND... YET.... but I plan on it.

I know my site is down for the moment they are doing some updates to the server. One of those necessary things at times. So it should be back up soon.

But it's great to see another North Dakotan here on the board !!!

Good Evening!, Ryan

It's currently 1pm Saturday so I was referring to yesterday... But tonight, back on Canadian Club

Krissy, good to hear... I know Cando well. I supply technology for both the hospital and the local pharmacy there.

Back to the scotch subject... I've never had the Macallan 12 (recently anyway). How would you describe it? I may have to check it out.

I've been working out in the garage all night and currently just finished roasting coffee for the morning (and rest of the week for that matter). It is kind of funny as it adds a whole new dimension to the smokiness of this Laphroaig.

Well, Friday night was a tequila night for me (Cazadores Anejo). Anyways, I read your comment on making Old Fashion's and I thought I'd remind you that an OF is supposedly made "properly" with rye whiskey instead of bourbon. Now I say "properly" because YMMV obviously. However, I have discovered that rye whiskey gives it a kick that bourbon just won't. Old Overholt rye happens to be GREAT and at the price of ~$13 you can't lose. Some people do prefer bourbon old fashion's, more power to them. For me, it was a revelation when I found rye.

Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Laphroaig Quarter Cask, and Lagavulin 16 staring me in the face. But it's not yet 5 pm.

Oh the humanity.

It's nearly 3 AM down here in Texas, but I'm on the night shift in the lab(and it's a slow night, hence why I'm on here). I might have to pour me a dram when I get home so I can sleep through the day for the next night shift. The options I have sitting in my cabinet right now are:

Suntory Yamakazi 12yo (not a true scotch, but don't knock this till you try it).
Aberlour A'bunadh (delicious sherried cask strength after dinner scotch)
Glenrothes 18yo 1991 (butterscotchery and excellent)

I wound up making the old fashioned the other night and used bourbon. It was pretty good but since I didnt use the best of bourbon the drink reflected that. I was curious about trying it with rye and now I'll have to pick some up and report back.
