What's new

It's Finally here!

Finally received my Pilot Metro in the mail yesterday along with a bottle of Onyx Black Diamine ink. Love the pen so far and how it writes and works. I was just wondering since I am a noob. Does anyone know if you can change out the nibs on these pens? I would love to have a fine point as it only comes with medium. Thanks in advance!

Yep, you can grab yourself a Pilot 78G with a fine nib (or any other size) for ten bucks off eBay and swap them around. FYI...the Pilot Medium nib is actually closer to a Western/European fine point. Asian nibs tend to run small.

As he said. For that matter, the stub nib from a cheap Pilot Plumix will also fit, although that's not the fine nib that you are interested in. It's easy enough to swap these out, I twisted out the feed and nib together, although I don't think that Pilot intended this to be user level maintenance. If you're going to fiddle around with your pens, though, it's best to start with the cheap ones before you buy anything you'd think twice about.

I find the Pilot Fine nibs that I got with the FP-78G to be a bit finer than is ideal for everyday use, but that's a matter of taste. They're great if you want to write small in a pocket notebook.

The metro/78G is on of the cheapest options for buying replacement nibs for since a whole new 78G gets bought and shipped for 10 bucks plus since its a whole pen, you can ink multiple ones up

+1 This is exactly what I have done with the 78g Broad nibs that I replaced on the Metropolitan as I didn't care for the Medium nibs.

OK so now I really need to swap out my nib since it rolled off my desk and hit point first on the ground. I am going to order a 78g. So all I need to do is twist out the feed and nib together? Do I use my hand or some sort of pliers? Don's want to mess the new one up. Thanks

I believe they are friction fit, they guys with them mist have missed your question. i was under impression they just pull out but if no one gets in to let you know for sure by tomorrow ill get someone with the pen to have a look

Just pull straight out holding the nib and fin. Give it a little twist if it doesnt move. No line up notches of grooves when pulling out. The steel nib does have a little notch to fit in the feed when you switch it out. Then just press the whole top back into the body.
